Le Tour de France - starts 30 June 2012

Haha, team sky all got shouted at by Mrs Cavendish yesterday for letting cav crash, now they are all riding hard to lead him out.

Why? He said himself his job was to support Bradley Wiggins not go for the green jersey again.

Yes, but you know what women are like ;)

What a disaster for Cavendish today! :(

I really have no idea WTF EBH was thinking about leading Mark out with 1.5KM to go. That was never going to work in a trillion years. If he's being lead out then he needs to be delivered with 200m to go.

No train at all from SKY. They pulled at the front purely to keep Wiggins safe. Mark should have waited and jumped on the Lotto train again.

I don't see things changing at SKY next year for the Tour either, especially if Wiggins wins GC. If he isn't going to ever get any lead out, and I mean proper HTC style lead out, then he ought to reconsider his options for next Season. Mark is very good (generally) at train surfing to the line, but today illustrates perfectly what happens when you **** it up and go too early. The team are putting him at great risk of injury IMHO.

From the post race interview with wiggins, i got the impression that the sky train was to keep wiggo at the front and away from any crashes rather than a sprint train for cav.

I absolutely agree with you. The Sky team is there purely for Wiggins and they certainly don't look like a team well practiced at leading out a sprinter. As you say the only reason they were up front today was to protect Wiggins.
I wondered last year when Cav said he was going to Sky what he was going to them for as they'd already declared their intentions regarding Wiggins. This year is his Olympic year so I guess he can afford to let it go, but next year when he wants to compete again....?

Who does he go to though? Garmin-Sharp would be exactly the same as SKY because Ryder's so good at GC. Green Edge, 4T1i and Lotto have their own sprinters, so they really don't need another. I can't see him going to any of the other teams either; they either suck or are GC focussed. Hmmm...

LOL, Tyler Farrar was ready to sock Tom Veelers one yesterday. Restrained from getting on the Argos-Shimano bus.

What does Gary Imlach do for the rest of the year when he's not presenting this? I know Phil and Paul work for NBC Sports covering a lot of tours.

He's not the only vulnerable sprinter.
Both Greipel and Farrar are out* of the sprint today due to injuries from crashes.

*'out' as in their directeur sportifs have told them not to contest the sprint today, not out of the race.

I don't think I made myself clear. I meant vulnerable in the context of 'not fast enough', not vulnerable through injury.

I just don't get it. He was amazing on Stage 2 and has sucked balls since. He obviously can't stay top dog forever, but it seems plain that his weight loss has cost him speed.

What happened to Farrar? Crashed for a 3rd day in a row?
