Le Tour de France - starts 30 June 2012

Well that's the rampaging gorilla action out of the way for a little while, now on to the proper Tour.

What I would ask is what sort of climber Bradley Wiggins is these days? The last time I saw him climb he was just like Cadel Evans, a steady grinder. If so, it could be a strange duel in the mountains.

Not really surprised to see Cav wiped out again. :(

He is a strong, steady climber. In the recent races he has won (Romandy and Dauphine) they have put the whole sky team on the front for the climbs and ridden a fast but steady pace. It worked very well for them, but there are more/harder climbs in the TdF.

Wiggins and Evans are very similar riders. Both grind steadily up the hills (and both TT well). If, after the longer TT, they are both on a similar time, it will be very interesting to see them try and attack each other on some of the hills.

I dont think farrar came down again today, just suffering from injuries yesterday

I think he did mid-way through the stage but wasn't going to contest anyway. Farrar never seems to have much luck at the tour, this year has been ridiculous!

Anyway looking forward to tomorrow, my only worry is with the wipe-outs today some of the guys like Schleck & Gesink are going to struggle which would be a shame and it looks like Hesjedal might even pull out :(

That was a nasty crash today. Sagan to win the Green Jersey?

Looking forward to tomorrow's stage, should be able to watch this one live rather than the highlights, final climb has 1 in 7 gradients.

Aye me too. Got to love the mountain stages. Even if the loony spectators get on my nerves.

Arrgghhh, put a couple of bets on today for stage winner tomorrow thinking i would be able to sit at work watching. Forgot its the weekend and i have a race so i cant watch live :(

Anyway, you guys can cheer on my choices for me (£1 on each):
JJ Cobo @ 76
Wiggo @ 76
Moncutie @ 126
Chavanel @ 151
Taaramae @ 151
Gerrans @ 151
Morkov @ 376

Feel free to follow my tips at a super-low commission of just %20 :p

So i was just reading that apparently Cav made it through the crash but suffered from a puncture with the support cars still stuck behind the crash? It sucks to see Sky having to make decisions like this (leaving him at the side of the road), and Cav coming off worst.

I'm a bit sad for Cav really, Sky can just about get away with it this year by pulling the Olympics card but next year will just be the same. I can't imagine Cav will be happy challenging for the jerseys at just the Vuelta and Giro. He should **** on Greipel's chips again and join Lotto-Bellisol. :D

This. In all fairness he was never going to top what he did last year with Team Sky was he? I can see him pulling out of the tour in the Mountains & getting ready for the Olympics.

What caused the crash?

According to CyclingTips:

"From what I’m told by one of the riders it was Pattachi (Lampre) who removed his shoe covers and gave them to David Viganò (also Lampre) who was putting them in his back pocket and couldn’t break when the pace slowed in front of him."

78kph at the time of the crash apparently, lucky it wasn't even worse!

Cameraman was running backwards following Sagan at the end of yesterdays stage and nearly took Wiggo's head off with the camera. Wiggins knocked the camera off his shoulder then used some colourful language to describe him.

Just seen Bradley getting a little carried away with that cameraman. To be honest it's hard to take a bloke in a bright yellow cycle helmet seriously. :D

I spent a while searching for the Google street view of that 'scary' finish to todays stage too. The twisty bit looks short and easy (in a car)!
