Huawei Ascend G300

Just got the Huawei and it's certainly a stupidly good phone for the price!

But.

The touchscreen is stupidly unresponsive at times (on latest official update). Makes me think of it as Capacistive. Looking at reviews online it is mentioned but strangely glossed over. It's annoying! It doesn't seem like it's the screens fault more that the software isn't doing things with the input properly. For example I can get a haptic feedback from the Home button but then *nothing*. So it clearly "knows" I touched it but then dismisses it.

How does everyone else deal with this? And is it any better in the official ICS update?
 
I have read info somewhere on Modaco that ICS does improve screen responsiveness, but for me i never had a problem with it, so i cant say myself. I am on ICS now and loving it.
 
Works fine for me too. Do you mean resisitive as capactive is what almost all smartphones are now I believe?

Oh I was meaning it's obviously a capacitive screen but you have treat it almost like a resistive one (go a bit slower and more forceful) to not see the issue.

It does seem to happen when you "poke" the screen. More than if you "finger print" it. Problem is I have very big hands so towards the bottom even one-handed I'll start to poke.

I opened up Skitch and it would track my finger perfectly. Just odd as haven't had this issue on any other phone before. Extremely annoying when you scroll though your apps list, it stops tracking your finger and launches the app your finger was on.
 
The screen seems quite good and responsive most of the time but the three buttons aren't.

When is this official update likely to appear? I don't really want to mess about with custom roms but will consider it if it's really worth it?

Same. ICS has been released OTA in China so hopefully it shouldn't be too long until it hits the UK.

Well,if you buy from Vodaphone,some shops will unlock for free (bluewater did it for me),but some won`t...it`s a bit hit or miss,just ask nicely and if they don`t,go to another shop. Also,some buying online report they`ve been sent sim unlocked ones,so check 1st if you get it off the web before obtaining a code. :)
 
got one of these yesterday from Argos, came complete unlocked, i then managed to find a nice black gel case online for it, this one,

all seems good, only hassle i had was trying to set up mobile web access, but i used a free app from andriod market place called tweakker, and it sorted it out in two clicks :D

all seems well, i have only two concerns,

1) the phone is very slippy, nearly dropped it a few times, never had this problem with my 1st gen ipod touch, but the new case should sort that

2) battery life seems to be a day max, this isnt a huge problem for me, as i will charge it each day as i get home, but if i was away for a couple of days i think it would be an issue.

now its just a little wait for ICS wich i believe has been release in the far east, for this model. we are meant to get it in Q3 2012, which technically is now anwards ehh? :D
 
Anyone who rooted this using Windows 7 what drivers did you use because mine doesn't seem to work without any drivers at the moment in recovery mode. :(
 
I got 'em. Cheers. Flashing ICS now. :D

Hmm not sure what to do. Put the files on my sdcard, tried sd card update, did something weird but not update the rom, tried the 2 vol button method, screen went pink and then nothing. So not sure how to update from B885 at the mo. Any ideas?

Once you have the official chinese ics update,extract it and place the dload folder containing update.app on the root of your sd card. You can either go through the menus on the phone and sd card update,or power off/remove the battery/replace it/press both volume buttons down while powering on. Phone will extract/update to ics. :)
 
I managed to flash to ICS yesterday. All the normal stuff seems to be working, but the phone doesn't want anything to do with mobile data.

I can make calls and send texts, but there isn't any data connection. Wi-fi works. I can tell it to use mobile data etc., but nothing seems to make a difference.

Anyone got any ideas? :confused:
