Hi there,

For the past few months I have been wanting to upgrade to a 7950/7970, but settled on the 7950 due to price. I was going to purchase a 7950 in about 1 months time, but then I had a quick look at the b grade section a few days ago and found an ati 7970 reference for £230!

So I bought that the moment I saw it. It arrived last friday, a little dent on the box that was it, opened it up and installed it and its like brand new! overclocks well to 1100mhz no problem and all temperatures good. I am very pleased indeed.

I think my cpu may be bottlenecking my card a little though, so a bit of input would be good. Here is my system specs

cpu: amd 955 quad core at 3.8ghz
motherboard: asus crosshair formula iv
ram: 8gb ripjaws ddr3 1600mhz
psu: coolermaster silent pro 700watt
graphics card: ati 7970

benchmark all at 1920*1080

metro 2033 very high dx11, aaa ( software anti aliasing)
average framerate: 38.00fps
min framerate: 24

core at 1100mhz
average framerate: 46

crysis benchmark very high

average framerate: 44
minimum framerate: 27

core at 1100mhz
average framerate: 47

aliens versus predator dx11 benchmark 4xaa
average framerate: 66.3

core at 1100mhz
average framerate: 73.4

crysis 2 benchmark 4xaa
average framerate: 64

core at 1100mhz
average framerate: 69

battlefield 3 benchmark (operation stormbreaker) ultra settings 4xmsaa
average framerate: 58.729
minimum framerate: 41

If there are any games which anyone would like benchmarked just say, as I think it gives a good indication as to what fps people might be getting with a phenom quad core overclocked.

thanks for reading!

Good find and yes, your CPU is a bottleneck. Personally I would look at swapping out the mobo and CPU for a IVY set up.

Great buy. Better experience than I had with the B grade for sure. I guess its the throw of the dice but well I got my money back. Hope your card carries on trucking.

I would be interested in hearing BF3 1920 x 1080 fps figures...

Nice one mate.
I was looking on b-grades last week, can you return b-grades if they don't worked propley?dead on arrival?or is in diffrent policy with them and you take gamble?

as far as I know as long as the product works its fine, if it does not work properly however then you can send it back. although its b grade it should still work as intended unless clearly stated otherwise. things like good overclockers are a bonus.
