STEAM Messing Me Around ....

I never make any big purchases through steam as their customer support is non existent. The last time I bought something worth money the key wouldn't work as Steam had sold it without having a key. I had to wait for them to allocate more keys. After a day I emailed them and never received a reply. It's disgusting customer service.

The OP was within his rights to go to the creditor for a refund. How long are you meant to wait for a vendor to reply? 7 days? 14 days? A month?

If Steam had replied within 48 hours at least even acknowledging the problem then the Op would never have opened a dispute. Close to a week later they hadnt even acknowledged any support request so Gimpymoo I don't know why you keep saying your problem was sorted instantly so the Op was in the wrong. He obviously wasn't dealt with in the same manor (neither was I! I never received a reply and it's been months lol).

Locking the whole account out instead of that single game is another reason not to have games locked up in Steam. Another example of disgusting customer service on their part.

People defending how Steam deals with people is shocking tbh.

Twice i have had steam has blocked my account making transactions because of too many failed transaction attempts in the past with my debt card because steam was getting hammered with steam sales and both times i just sent them a ticket and it was sorted in less than a day.

Bumping the thread again with an update. Maybe it will help people in the future by informing everyone how bad STEAM customer service is.

I received an email from STEAM today saying "Since this transaction is in Dispute Status at PayPal, PayPal has locked us out and Steam is no longer able resolve the discrepancy on our end."

Steam told me to close the dispute with Paypal. I did. And now they are saying they can't help. Paypal are saying because i closed the dispute with STEAM there is nothing they can do. I've still got a locked STEAM account and i'm still £29.99 out of pocket. I'm all out of options now.

Am I right in reading that because the Paypal payment screwed up, you ended up paying for one game twice? Then opening a paypal dispute with Steam and they put a restriction on your account?

I can kinda see how they may have got pee'd off with that, I know its annoying that you have been charged twice but at that time you had a working steam account with your new game.

I would have just taken the double payment on the chin and just pestered them with constant emails to customer support until they responded and it got resolved. From my limited experience of eBay buying/selling, some people (rightly or wrongly) view the opening of a paypal dispute as being quite harsh when it could have been sorted one to one with emails etc.

I think the lesson is, dont p**s off Valve.

I've never raised a paypal dispute, but is there anyway you can check the status of it to see if it has completely closed? Can you give evidence of this to Steam?

Shocking treatment from Steam. They should be working with you to get this sorted rather than just shrugging their shoulders. Keep on to them until its sorted.

You did it the wrong way around, you should have worked with steam, they would have returned your money to paypal, many times when things have not gone to plan using paypal which i use for steam now as well as most transactions.

Sorry to hear that OP, this is exactly how I lost my old steam account. Valve fanboy I am not.

I am fairly sure their practices are against EU laws but who is going to chase it up over a game?

edit> only difference is I didn`t open a dispute not that it made a difference

If people have been treated good by steam then every right to like steam and people who have been treated badly by steam have every right not to like them, it's that simple, but sometimes people cant be completely blameless for making an unfortunate situation worse.

I had 5 failed transactions on my account which now have been removed.

Sounds like my experience with Steam support. I ended up giving up and getting a new account. Others have had luck with the emailing Gabe route.

I didn't raise a dispute. Paypal did automatically over some purchase..god knows what it was.

Personally, my Paypal is tied to my bank account, and considering the fact you can pay with your bank account on Steam, why even use Paypal? I'll never use them unless it is as a last resort, such as on GamersGate etc.

Do you own a debit card OP? If so I'd recommend just using that in the future.

Wahhh?

Dont jump the gun and issue disputes before giving reasonable time to resolve the problem.

Tbh Steam aren't great about it. Often the real culprit is PayPal though - they caused the initial problems in my own similar situation and then Steam compounded it by being useless.

+1 Paypal systems beyond the initial payment are basically nuclear options. I will add in some cases it can be reasuring it have it. But having seen the process from both ends i can't can't say i'm surprized with steam given how papypal is and how it can be abused. They still should have better custimer service, because they are poor at leting you know whats happening till its resovled.

LOL @ OP opening a PayPal dispute.

Never had an issue after using PayPal to buy hundreds of games on Steam. Always contact Steam support.

Paypal is pointless and it has caused me problems in the past. Steam has never even caused me problems, just pay direct to Steam with your card..
