Artic Freezer 7 Pro temps on i5 3450 not very satisfying

I just setup the Arctic freezer 7 pro rev 2 on my i5 3450, and to be honest i'm quite dissapointed with the temps i'm getting.
At the moment i'm getting 35-37C on idle at stock speeds, and 50-59C on full load, but the main reason why i'm dissapointed is because the stock cooler i had used was giving me pretty much the same temps.

I tried removing the cooler again and adding another thin layer of paste, and ensuring it was securely in place, but still no change.

I was just wondering anyone who has the same cooler what temps their getting as i feel like i havent done something right.

All my cores are 30 with mine on an AMD Phenom, I put some fresh MX-2 on it helped me abit but yeah compared to stock it wasnt a great upgrade but it was quieter.

I think that most of the time CPU coolers at the low to medium end of coolers won't perform that much better cooling wise, but will perform better sound wise!

Edit: when OP says "added another layer of paste" I assume you removed the layer that was already there with proper cleaning stuff?

That's pretty much what the Artic Freezer 7 Pro is. A quieter version of the stock cooler. You need to spend a bit more if you want cooler temps.

I used isopropyl alcohol to remove the old paste, and applied acrtic silver 5 on the cpu.

The thing is i bought the Artic Freezer with the knowledge i would get a fairly cooler temp compared to the stock cooler, because there are so many reviews from customers saying they're getting a substationaly low temp with theirs.

I didn't expect to get a mind blowingly low temp, but atleast a satisfactory temp with the money i spent on it.

I think those temp are good, considering how IB is actually trapping lots of heat within the chip itself and not very good as transferring the heat out and pass onto the heatsink. Honestly, I don't think having better CPU cooler would make temp much better (as least not anywhere as significant as on other CPUs), consdiering the way IB is.

I have arctic cooler 7 too and temps idle are 19 degrees and while playing games 37 only prob is I get CPU fan failure at start up ( very annoying)

60C is pretty cool for a CPU

aftermarket coolers are for overclocking, the higher the temp differential the more efficient they get, so where as the intel cooler might go to 80C+ with a mild overclock, the freezer would stay around 70C by comparison

at stock for stock you'll get no real benefit from using a bigger heatsink as the intel one is already designed to cope with that CPU at stock settings

If this is true then how do you explain the drop in temps on my CPU since I installed an Alpenfohn Matternhorn Pure in place of my stock cooler?

I'm still running stock atm until I get things as I want before attempting OC'ing.

Idle: A drop of around 5°C
Load: A drop of around 14°C
(temps monitored via HWM Pro)

Though I am running AMD and not Intel
