And of course we STILL have more to announce

Now that Connor has One of the Two required CPU's, he was finally able to start assembling. The build was just a mock to test the other components he has had sat here for some time now!

Connors set about building the Fractal Rig Last night.
Only issue we have are 8pin and 24 pin cable length due to the size of the XL case...but that won't be an issue soon...

Booted first time! Will install Windows this weekend :D

Till next time

Great work Connor!

Love the black/yellow. Too bad you don't have yellow fans ;) and yellow HDD trays and yellow PCI slot covers :D

Looks fantastic, loving the choice of colours. Great to see the new sponsors on board too, you have done really well!

:D

Very good, just need to manage the cables :)

Oh yes this is just a mock, their will be nice sleeved cables soon

Whoa! Some big sponsors coming in! Outstanding job!

Stoner81.

Yep! Was talking to a friend earlier, Hes not really into computers , I couldn’t emphasise how big this is, I don’t want to sound arrogant but honestly I've never seen a build/project with this many sponsors before..its just amazing

Connor installed Windows this morning, Its been nothing but problems since.

The actual install was faultless...but
  • first boot was suuuper sllloooowww..
  • System froze after a minute or so (Not BSOD)
  • SATA mode is set to ACHI

  • Rebooted something happens.
  • Next Boot was fine..
.

Next odd one after install the GPU drivers (latest Nvdia)

After the Windows boot logo, The monitor goes black and just stays that way..if we do CTRL_ALT_DEL it opens task manager , and the desktop appears..

Installed a few apps like Hwonitor etc, Temps all good 20-30's

Then USB starting playing up, mouse not moving or keyboard responding, He rebooted and it does it again after a few minutes.

Some boots the kb /mouse didn't respond for a minute or two...

The on-board WIFI will not install, Code 10 in device manager.

Things we have tried

Bios update,
Driver updates
Monitor Temps
Set XMP profile for RAM
Everything is stock in bios.

So a real head scratcher, we do have the privilege of having more PSU's. RAM,SSD and such at hand to eliminate the issue.

I'm thinking PSU or RAM but we'll see.

try memtest 86

Thanks for the suggestion.
We Ran memtest for 8 hours or so yesterday. All passes.

The machine was still not right so we've done the following since
  • Updated the firmware for the Corsair SSD
  • updated/downgraded chipset drivers
  • Reseated RAM
  • Updated the bios to a more current version build date more recent the one from the .TW site
  • Reinstalled windows
  • Change the SSD to the Kingston one
  • Ran Windows update.

In the process of the above we have fixed

  • Freezes
  • Slow boots

We still have the following issues

USB devices slow to start eg keyboard/mouse not useable after windows logon screen, generally 30 seconds

Onboard WIFI wil not install This device cannot start. (Code 10) in device manager

We just updated the bios again just now to a newer version , via our ECS rep. Will explain to them its still not right :(

How is Connor holding up to all these problems?
You can deal.... Connor is only a kid. :)

Dissapointed but patient. Have the system more stable now . USB working as it should.

Thoughts on this, Colour scheme for fans

I'll upload a better shot soon, camera is being a pain

We would like to have both systema done before end of July, Just need to source a CPU for the antec build :)

Have a GPU giveaway competition coming up soon too

Nice, did you paint the fans? They look mighty good :)
Wish me luck on installing windows on my new build!

Good luck and enjoy the new build!

Liking the look of the fans... Hope you manage to get the issues sorted :)

The fan looks excellent, hope you manage to sort the issues you are having.

Agree, time is running short, Speaking With ECS today. Only issue left is the onboard WIFI now. :(

Great idea, donation made to a worthy cause, wish you and Connor all the best and am looking forward to an epic build :)

Couple of tips and/or suggestions ;p

1. Stop building on the carpet if you can try either moving onto a wooden table or roll up your rug before you get started, I'm not one for excessive antistatic precautions but it makes me wince seeing some of your shots

2. I used a great window cutting guide when I cut my first window, if you are planning on doing any more in these cases, cant paste the guide url as its on a competitors site but if you search for "welshtom Howto : Cut a simple window" you'll find it :)

Anyway, good luck with the fundraising
