Trying to bodge a remote wifi WOL scenario

Cannot get WOL to work via wireless, so I thought of this

Can I connect a router to the pc via a cable, that router talks to the main router wirelessly
Then if I want to access the pc from away from home via remote desktop app?

Is this deluded fantasy?
 
The reason why WOL doesn't work over Wi-Fi is because the PC needs to be on, and booted into an Operating System to connect to the network in order to receive the WOL signal.

If the 2nd router can be used as a wireless client, then this solution may work, as then you would have a persistent connection via the wireless router(s) as well as the LAN cable directly connected to the PC, which will then allow the WOL signal to be received.

I also found I would have to have 2 routers which are whs compliant, which most likely would mean 2 new routers, might have to shelve this idea! Boo!
 
When I was at HighSchool I used to have my PC boot itself up 2 minutes before my bus got home (in the bios) there was one time I got in, opened my bedroom door and the PC booted up just as i stepped in. Felt amazing.

True story.

WOL doesn't support wireless on its own, see if the computer supports Wake on Wireless LAN (WoWLAN).

If it doesn't then you will need some form of connectivity to the Ethernet port, as that is what will process the magic packet when your PC is off and you need to boot it up. if you can create a wireless bridge using the routers you have, then it should be possible to sort out wake on LAN.
