Tax Rebate quickie -

I dont know what number you guys are calling, but I've called them about 5 times the past month, and every single time I havent had to wait more than 20 seconds?

01355359022 (withhold your number as this is suppose to be for overseas only)

I was also on emergency tax code for this past month as I started a new job, called them last night and was just told I need to call them back again with my new employers tax reference number and I will get whatever I overpaid in my next payslip.

I'm also waiting for a previous employer to send HMRC my P45 so I can get my whole refund for the previous tax year..although that's taking a while so I might just send it in myself..will be a nice £700 bonus when its all sorted though :)

A2Z - I just called them (you're right got through straight away).

Said I needed to wait for my end of year letter or something? I'm with an agency and I know I was on emergancy tax, the agency gave me a tax reference code? Is this what they mean?

No, they mean your P60. It's the total of your earnings and tax paid in the year essentially.

Got mine on Friday, I paid 90p too little IT, slightly made up for by paying 20p too much NI. Don't think anyone will care. :D

Umm, depends how punctual your company. I work as an accountant and so the firm I'm in tends to be pretty on the ball with this. We do have large amount of national staff advising on this type of shizzle.

My last emergency tax refund was just over £3.5k

I have just got a letter (3 in fact) from the tax man for this year saying they messed up my tax code and owe me another £1.3k for the last 2 years.

I quite like the taxman.

I'd like them too, I mean what's not to like about them taking £4.8k of your own money for X amount of years and then giving it back without interest which means you've actually lost out on money.

You haven't lost out on money, there's an argument you've lost a slight amount of purchasing power but if he's anything like me and **** with money, it's a great way of saving.

If you'd put that £4,800 in an ISA, you would have earned some money on it over a few years, they should really giving interest on top of it, after all it's not your issue they overtaxed you.

I know I'm owed a refund from the last tax year. Despite chasing since April they're still 'missing some information' so OP, don't hold your breath on getting any refunds.

Got my refund ages ago :) It took 5 minutes on the phone to a really nice guy helping me.

2 weeks later got the cheque :)
