Hi All ,

i wanna take advantage of this steam sale , but i have a really slow sky broadband 1.5mb max , is there anyway of downloading off a mates fibre optic broadband , then transfer to an external hard drive and take back to my pc? would it work on my pc?...

Yes, perfectly fine.

Go to your friend's house, and log into Steam using your own details (ensuring you're not online at home) - you will need to go through the Steam Guard bit, because, of course, you've enabled it! ;) (I hope! And if not... why not?)

Select the game you want to download, and hit the Play button, which will initiate the download. Most games now go into the \steamapps\common\ folder - once it's finished downloading, copy the sub-folder for the game(s) of your choice, then take them home and put them into the same folder on your PC.

Then, hit Play, and it should then go through any initial config and launch the game :)

Very, very easy to do!! :)

There is also a steam backup feature that will build executables to install the games. Not that confused's method won't work, just pointing it out. If you go for the folder copy route, run a verify once you've copied, before you try and run the game. Shouldn't be needed, but just in case anything went walkies in the transfer.

I think he means 1.5 is his speedtest, so not accual download speed

But yeah I used to do that, noticed sometimes the game will say downloading, but it'll go really quick cause ofcourse the files are already there

Yeah it'll say downloading but the transfer rate will be 0 as it figures out you already have it.

Some games it seems to refuse to work properly on though. I tried it with TF2 a few days ago and it re-downloaded it anyway.
