Saying "All Romany gypsies are thieving dirty scum" would be racism.

Just recounting a specific, factual incident of how some people turned up in caravans and actually were dirty thieving scum isn't unless you attribute it to the people belonging to a race.

Travellers can be dirty thieving scum whatever their race.

We had two lots where I live and one lot was allegedly "proper gypsies" and actually weren't so bad. The worst were just "travellers" and were pretty chuffing horrible.

Maybe they could help out with peoples perceptions of travellers by not being such big fans of crimes.

We have constant problems at work of gippos breaking in and stealing metal, nightmare.

Can anyone list the positive contribution to society that travellers make?

I would seriously advise having someone in the house at all times.

We had ****** settle on a field near us and they walked up and down the street a lot looking at the houses. They will ring the doorbell to see if people are in, they knocked on my door and had some weird excuse like the wrong house or whatever, the next day a neighbors house had been broken in to, xbox and things stolen.

I have no problem with how they live and actually find them quite interesting but there is always going to be the dodgy ones.

Do what we did as kids and use an air horn all day long right next to there site. They soon got furious and left a day later.

some are bad some are good like all manner of people.

They are not a race so its not racism, same as insulting people for being chavs.

And before anyone tries to say about them being protected under the race relations act, they are protected from discrimination as an ethnic minority, not as a race.

Unfortunately I don't know who owns the land, just that it isn't public land that's for sure - and like I said they had to break a padlock on a gate to get into it.

I will try to take a photo sometime over the weekend and keep the updates coming!

i just find it funny that if it would have been any other ethnic group and travellers do come under that whether anyone likes it or not this thread would have been locked

The problem with travellers is that their stereotype seems to apply to the majority of them, rather than a minority in most other cases - hence why no one likes them, and rarely does anyone defend them.

People don't dislike them because they're gypsies, people dislike them because they steal and leave a trail of **** and destruction in their wake. That's why it's not really racism, they just happen to be an ethnic group, but no one cares about that.
