Is it just me or is it really off putting seeing games launching with DLC?, just seems greedy and as a gamer feels like I’m being short changed.

I can’t see how the game studios actually benefit from this as personally ill avoid buying the game at launch because of this, and just wait for the GOTY edition or pick it up in a sale.

An example of this would be Darksiders 2, now i really enjoyed the first game and was set to pre-order the sequel until i seen

Darksiders 2 - Death Rides
Darksiders 2 - Crucible Pass
Darksiders 2 - Angel of Death
Darksiders 2 - Deadly Despair
Darksiders 2 - Shadow of Death

On top of that free armours, extra content if you pre-order etc etc. Shouldn’t all this be in the game that you are spending £30+ in the first place? Now this studio has lost a sale from me.

Now don’t get me wrong i don’t mind DLC, but just not at launch and not crappy little add-on’s and 1 hour gameplays. I bought and enjoyed Shivering Isles, Awaking etc and would happily buy again. Same with downguard, its 20 hour+ so no complaints, has come at a timely fashion, aka not at launch. Just seems to be getting a bit OTT and us gamers being taken for a ride?

Edit - Just to add ive got massive respect for the guys over at cd projekt, ill go as far as to say i will be buying their next game what ever it is, they have earned a loyal customer. Same with propper DLC content providers.

I agree, while it's completely at the developer's / publisher's discretion what gets included in the retail price, it does smart a bit to think that the content has been removed from the game to act as extra-cost DLC.

A few years ago the game would have been created as it was intended. They'll say that extra time has gone into creating it, therefore it warrants extra cost, something that can't be proven either way.

Nay from me unless it is free, basically makes it a patch then.

If it is available on day of release then it is content that should be in the standard game that people have paid good money for.

Can't see how they benefit? Gullible people purchasing the DLC.

And nay from me.

I want a solid working game thats been out in the general pop and had a major patch on it before i pick a game up im paying for, i dont care about been first in the door all said i just want to not be frustrated with something when im trying to enjoy myself.

DLC to me is nothing but a money grab, what worrys me more tho is this new situation were a game will come out and less than a month later end up on the discount shelf, whats that all about?

Isnt this method actually better in the long term for studios, than rinsing them once.

Its abit annoying that Devs plan to release additional DLC even when announcing the release of a game, i.e. E3 press conference for Call of Duty, the talk about the game and than announce they will be releasing "x" amount of map packs.

If you are aware of how many maps will go on the game in the long haul don't hold them back.

I say Nay also.

The closest that has come that I was happy with was Cruisader Kings 2.

Even before release they said they would be working on lots of extra content that they would later release as DLC, so technically not Day 1 DLC but a admition there would be some.

I wasn't bothered as on release it was a complete, working game. And they released a number of patches before they release the first DLC.

Also, their DLC is mainly little add-ons that really aren't needed anyway. The main one they've release since has been the Expansion - but then that's a full expansion and I've baught those way before DLC ever existed.

In fact, imho, companies should go back to doing full Expansions rather than measly DLC pieces... People would pay more for them too!

Now ill pick up the game for a tenner in 6 months time.

This, if I know there's going to be a pile of DLC within a short time of release I'll wait for the sales or a bundle offer. Saints Row 3 was a good example, I got the game and the DLC bundle offer all for £15 shortly after release.

it depends what games it is tbh, if its cosmetic items etc i dont see a problem with it but if its maps for multiplayer games or something else that divides the player communities its awful.
as for single player missions, thats bad too but if i do pick up a game on release day i would hope the DLC would pop up later on via steam etc but DLC like this is still a big turn off in my book.

**** off tbqh
If it's ready then include it in the original release!

I'm pretty sure that the console MW:Morons have hugely contributed to this with their willingness to pay for anything branded MW. Companies are just following suit now.

They usually do the "collectors edition" scam where all the day 1 dlc is given to you in a more expensive edition of the game.

Sometimes I'll buy the collectors edition if the extra content I think is worthwhile to my play experience. They usually don't cost a lot more than the normal edition, but its kind of a slow method for them to make more money overall.

Gamers are being conned by collectors editions, the idea of a digital game having a collectors version is slightly ridiculous really.

nay developer's getting to greedy these day's

It's not the developers it's the publishers, they take most of the profits and then cry about how the second hand market is making developers poor.

It's the same with music artists/record labels, what we need is these industries to evolve and cut out the publishers who are nothing but a parasite.
