Just for anyone stumbling over this thread or searching for an IPS laptop
Laptop screens are of a lower spec than desktop, especially when it comes to IPS. On a laptop IPS you have lower colour gamut, thicker bezels, clouding grey, and believe it or not on some of the best if not the best (retina display) image retention. Also ips has greater ghosting and is generally worse for games.
IPS has become a buzz word for screens because of viewing angles on tablets and phones also for their saturated colours.
What you actually need to do is read the owner reviews and go onto

look for the best black value as this is the worst thing about and TFT screen when you have grey and low contrast on dark games or movies (most modern day stuff features dark stuff)
high gamut eh ? hmm.. 95% you say? clevo or sager you think.. Check out the problems with red shift on these screens. Also remember for photo work IF calibrated with the correct tool a high gamut screen will look great but windows and for that matter games do not support high gamut they will look overblown and too saturated like an old tube tv with the colour turned up.
if you want some simple advice. the MX17 and MX18 screens are excellent, they are high viewing angles for TN, they have good blacks but the only downside is at the time of writing there are no matt finishes.
the Asus G75 has an excellent screen with even better blacks and its matt aswell
um other than that do you want 120hz for smoothness? well check out notebook reviews which shows in most cases the current gen 120hz screens feature a weaker black (but massive brightness of course for 3D) again the Asus doesn't suffer as much in this regard
hope this helps. Basically a Good TN panel is better than a cheap IPS panel.
