Hi there

OK you've got around 50k and narrowed your options to three cars:-

2007 997.1 Porsche GT3 - 415BHP / 1375kg / RWD / Rear Engine / 3.6l Flat 6
2011 R35 GT3 - 530BHP / 1750kg / AWD / Front Engine / 3.8l V6 Twin Turbo Charged
2008 Audi R8 - 420BHP / 1450kg / AWD / Mid Engine / 4.2l V8

So which would you buy and why?

GTR.

I didn't realise they were that heavy though.

Oh yes, they are lardy wagons, but you can't feel their weight, due to lots of suspensions trickery and the gearbox/diffs make them a very quick car for their weight. Even though they are great to drive, they are not a drivers car like a 911 or R8.

R8, might not be as good as the others but it's an R8. I know that a GTR or GT3 would be wasted on me so I'd take the blingy super car :p

GTR just because of the stupid silly potential. :D

Yes that is certainly tempting, for me the main worry with a GTR having had plenty of seat time in one, is I feel it could be just an itch I want to scratch but not a car I would really own for much time as they just lack something for me.

The 911 I love it, hence why I feel strongest for moving to a GT3 next. :)

If I didn't have a wife and child on the way. I would go for the Porsche just for its fun factor and it not being a safer drive as the GTR.

So with all that in mind, I would go for the GTR :(

From my extremely limited experience of both they both seem to have a very similiar driving experience, even at speed, until you really put them on the edge and thats where the difference really shows and where what your looking for comes in. For want of a better way to describe it the GTR you can still feel the potential savagery under the bonnet but it feels a bit more in control, the porsche feels a bit more like its unchained - I know I'm kinda going back over what you've already said but I kinda know what that itch is for the GTR and I think you will miss the character of the porsche whereas for me I know my limits and would rather have the car thats more forgiving.
