Can someone explain to me abit about USB Headsets ? please

do you not need a sound cards ?

I am using onboard was looking at the Xonar DG and usb Gaming Headset

but am i right in thinking the headset would not use the card ?

Yes the USB headesets don't use your soundcard, unless you plug it in with an audio jack, but then that wouldn't be a usb headset.

They usually have their own mini sound card.

so are they classed as inferior ? to sound card plugged headphones ?

Depends on what sort of sound quality you class as inferior :)

If you bought a dedicated sound card then you probably value your sound quality so the USB headset won't be as good as that.

So yes it'll be inferior but I suppose it depends if you can detect that.

I mean if you can't hear a difference then it doesn't matter.

I see it as if you have a decent dedecated sound card then your better off useing headsets with audio jacks, just bought a usb headset myself as i only have onboard realtek, so ive gone from medusa 5.1pluged into the onboard to usb corsair vengeance 1500 and the corsairs are a much nicer crisper sound

I have a gigabyte Mobo with realtek on board 7.1 and a pair of pants headphones .

or i go xona r+ new headset

or go usb headset ?

dont have a lot of money and would like to do this on a budget .

If you don't want to spend too much, I'd get a either get a USB headset, or an analogue one and use it with your onboard audio. If you are looking at buying a sound card as well, that will mean less money on the headset. Spending more on a better headset is much better than buying a cheaper one and getting a sound card.

It's obviously going to be inferior - you're trying to squeeze all the circuitry that normally constitutes a sound card into a pair of headphones. Not an easy job.

The only way to know is to try them. You can always send them back.
