Hi all,

Was thinking of picking up a Corsair H60 or maybe a H80, they both received very good reviews but there appears to be a great many people who are having issues with a noisy/grinding pump.

Just wondered what the experiences of the folks here have been like?

If it is some sort of manufacturing issue and they still have yet to resolve it I'll steer clear but was quite keen to have a nice, relatively small cooler in my system. Not looking to overclock, just wanted something fairly quiet.

If the H60/H80 are out do you guys have any other recommendations?

H60 and H80 come with fast and noisy fans to compensate for their low efficiency in overalls cooling, so if you are considering one then maybe you should also budget for replacement fans on top of the purchase price. High end air coolers are larger but do often make less noise and also drop hot air into the case. Custom water loops are where it's at for lowest noise and temps, and emptiest pockets.

I've already got a Thermaltake Frio which is by no means a bad cooler and is pretty quiet too, what has kicked this off is that I would really like to get my case tidied up, route all the cabling nicely etc. and having a massive 1kg chunk of metal in the middle is a mess.

Installing something like the H60 seemed like a good way of keeping the processor cool in a quiet manner while reducing the clutter in the case.

The H60 won't perform as well as the Frio. It's not that hard making a PC look tidy even with an air cooler. Admitedly the Frio isn't the best looking thing out there.

Maybe I'll have a go of sorting it out first and if I'm still not happy then I'll invest in something like the H60.

Cheers for the advice.

:( this is what keeps putting me off getting one.. tho my h50 has been perfect

I might see if I can build a custom loop in that prodigy, if it shows up.

Have you thought about the Antecs?
The Antec kuhler 920 is a great cooler, I've had one for months now and it keeps my 2500k @ 4.8ghz in the high 50's when heavy gaming, and 60's after 8 hours prime BUT! the supplied fans are noisey when running ful pelt.
Fit a couple of Apache Blacks though and it's barely audible on extreme setting. Looks awesome too with a lit Antec logo on the water block which you can change the colour of to suit and full fan control out the box with the supplied software.

That does look pretty nice, bit pricey and will need to replace the fans too but looks like it could be worth it.

I haven't overclocked my 2500k, haven't really needed to as my GPU is the limiting factor currently, would the included fans be okay (as in not bloody noisy) if only running at a low/medium level with my CPU at stock?

over the years I've had an H70, H100, bought a mate an H50 and now running an H60

I've fitted the dual corsair static fans on mine and set the BIOS to 50% fan speed. No noise and my 2500k runs no hotter than 59c when encoding videos at 4.4GHz :D

Most pumps do rattle, BUT the trick is to use the corsair fan voltage cable which comes with the static fans. Use this and you will have one totally silent machine  Checks the voltages etc etc and they are MINT

£85!!!!?!?!! Good god that's expensive, especially when you add a couple of aftermarket fans.
