Hi guys looking for a first time build as the pc i have had for years kicked the bucket on saturday morning.

I want to make it a decent enough spec so it will last for at least 18 months or so before i SLI it or add more ram etc etc

Will be mainly used for BF3 some steam games.

If there is anything you thing would be better or if anything i have listed is known for trouble please share your ideas/thoughts.

This is what i have so far:

Thanks

The RAM is high profile fella so you might well struggle getting that heatsink on :(

I see a white theme, I'll be back with a spec in a bit ;)

A few changes....i used the OEM CPU as it's cheaper. It has no heatsink and only has the 1 year warranty (CPU failure is rare to be honest). Likewise you have used an OEM bluray drive, this most likely wont include the playback software.

Mobos frequently come with only 2 sata cables as you have 3 sata drives i included a white sata cable too. The mobo is cheaper and picked for style as much as anything. It has THX rated audio so should be good and also does SLI/Xfire. The PSU is modular and has enough juice to easily SLI the 670 GPU.

The H100 could be removed from the spec, you could revert back to your original choice and put the cash back into the GPU. You can certainly save a few quid on this spec though, especially on the mobo but let me know what you think.

Hope this helps, I'm sure you'll have questions which we are all happy to answer

Loving the white and black thing guy got to be that case with that cooler a nice black PSU and going for white braided extensions

Didn't even think about getting the RAM under the cooler.

Only thing i'd suggest if u could stretch your budget a bit would be replace the 570 with a 670, it's not a massive amount more and the 2gb of VRAM would help.

I had a bash at a black and white rig for you. I edited my original post ;) That RAM is good and overclocks well but is OTT on this socket. Running RAM over 1600mhz makes lil odds. I used the GEIL RAM as the gold dragons tied into the colour of the mobo. CAS timings don't really make much difference really from say C9 to C11, unless you are properly anal about benchmarks.

I do like the cooler but prefer the NZXT one also the mobo i know is expensive but i think its the best looking board since sliced bread.

Aslong as the bulk of the specc i chose is all compaitable i think i'll stick to it but go for a lower profile ram and the 670.

For sake of £10 I would have gone with the retail cpu with the extra warranty.

I do like to try and show ways to save money. I don't want to give the impression I go silly with peoples money. To be fair if he used a GB mobo it would save cash and they have a good UK based 3 year warranty. I used the cheaper 670 which has 3 years but also linked a slightly faster one for more cash but that only has 2 years :(

I don't expect my spec to be bought just to give ideas as it looks to be styled as much as it is decent components.

I would love to see a build log for this and see what other people suggest. I helped a guy a while back with a similar build who did a nice project log and we helped him work through the gremlins at the end :D

Would love to do a project log its definetly a cool idea

Just got a few issues cash wise to iron out then the order is going in hopefully in the next week or so.

DO IT!!! Check back nearer the time bud so we can exploit the offers......notice how i used the 850W XFX PSU? It's literally a couple of quid more than your choice as it's on offer.

If you want to pay the extra for the look of certain components then that's cool but it never hurts to be flexabubble :)

Yea i don't mind paying a bit extra for the aesthetics. Ok i don't have to look at the mobo after the build but it does everything i might need and its all black.

with an overclocked ivybridge and 570/670 setup, would you not want to get 16gb+ of 1866MHz + RAM just to avoid having to upgrade? We do have 3000MHz RAM now after all, and 16gb is getting more and more common. I want to get 16gb of 2133MHz ram as an upgrade from my 8gb of 1600MHz cos i like to run a minecraft server and minecraft and voice calls etc at once which makes my RAM sit at a very tight looking 90% usage.
