Excess lint on clothes from washing machine?

My dark items are coming out of the washing machine with excess amounts of lint attached to them, despite the fact the filter is completely clean.

Is there anything else I should check and/or do?

Is it definitely lint and not dark flaky bits? Sometimes washing machines benefit from an empty boil wash as it cleanses the machine of debris and dried soap powder which can manifest as dark flaky bits on clothing.

I've noticed this with socks recently. Huge balls of the stuff. Must be a conspiracy.

Got the flakyness issue with our washing machine atm. Its PIA.

Find best to let said item of clothing dry first then attempt to remove it. Trying whilst it's wet often results in smudging it in :cool:

Yeah it's white fluff basically, I'll try a boil wash and/or some washing machine cleaning fluid as I'm pretty sure I've bought something like that before.

I always turn all clothes inside-out / outside-in before washing them - seem to get less fluffy lint bits sticking to them if you do this - I don't know why, but it seems to work.

Yeah I turn everything inside out so it's not too bad as the lint is on the inside.

What's that? When you use too much powder? I use colour care/bleach free liquid.

Powder bloom is where the washing powder is left on the clothes after the wash, more noticeable on dark items.

As you use liquid this won't be the case.

On a side not as you do liquid and hence no bleach do you find that your door seal looks grubby?

Mine is and I use liquid.

Any way to get rid? Apart from scrubbing?

Hot wash, 95' and a cap full of household bleach, once a week for a month and it will clear up.

Your washing machine has a filter. Clean it.

Now that you mention it, I do notice this. I'll try your suggestion with the bleach wash.

Well I guess I'll run a few empty hot cycles and I'll do some more Googling around the model of the machine, see if it's a common issue. one thing that I've never seen before is a label near the filter that says "self cleaning filter, but check regularly".

The filter was spotless when I took it out, machine is less than a year old.

Get a bowl of hot water with bleach in it, rub those door seals, the glass on the door and around the door - then clean out the drawer with a nail brush or something to get in most of the cracks.

After that, the hottest cottons wash with soda crystals and your regular dose of biological soap powder (not liquid as this doesn't contain bleaching agents) with extra rinses enabled.
