Am I right in thinking I can't let it idle for long and should be out driving it immediately to seat the rings? [/IMG]

If you value you engine for its power making capabilitys, longetivity, reliability and oil consumption do not let the engine idle at all. You only get one shot at bedding the rings in. Repeated heavy load and overun upto 3.5k - 4k to help seat the rings best as possible. Repeat for about 50 miles change oil and filter, then progressivelt extend the revs to the redline over the next 100-200 miles. Makes me angry when people "baby" new engines believeing they are doing them a world of good...

On another note, COOL ENGINE BRO

That's just the kind of info I've been reading from other sources. Thanks for chiming in. There have been a few complications with the head swap (wiring & VICS) but I'm getting there. The engine is now in the car and nearly all hooked up. I'm waiting on some coolant hoses to turn up then it should be ready to start.

The car isn't MOT'd or Tax'd so it's going to be a case of risking it on the road for 50 miles to seat the rings, or trailering the car to a rolling road (when I pray it starts). First attempt at building an engine so I'm BRICKING IT :o .

Will update you all when I've got the thing started up!

And yeah it's going into a gutted out mk1 MX5 (No PAS, Aircon delete, Tow hooks gone, loads of unnecessary stuff in the bin, the doors have been completely gutted to the bare shell, Bonnet pins and bootlid hooks to remove locking mechanisms etc. Should weigh around the 940kg mark.

My friend has. Mk1 5 running around 420-430 with a very similar spec to yours accept he is running water meth injection in his top map I have driven it and my god it's fast!

If you still have a 5 speed box in it I would swap it for a 6 as you will munch the 5 boxes almost weekly, also if you are going for sticky wide rears expect to snap a few diff mounts so might be worth picking up a diff casing or 2. Other than that his car has been bomb proof for 25k miles so far, enjoy!

This isnt really related. But I think youve encouraged me to go high boost next year when I sort my gti-6 out. I was going low but i have a feeling that somehow 450 hp will be a lot more exiting:P
No point in doing things by halves which is a point i think you have made well.

Get a video up when its done :)

Pretty sure I've been on Knockhill at the same time as you with the previous engine. You were not slow then! That is going to be insane with that power, have fun!

Should get it entered into SMRC Sports & Saloons, think you'd be very competitive with that power to weight ratio.

Here's the icing on the cake. Had it powdercoated in candy red, then got the touch up pen out carefully lol. Also got a new harness for the drivers bucket. Going to move the existing 2" Schroth to the pax seat.

I hope it'll move. I've just recently fitted some 9 inch wide wheels with 225 wide r888's. Might still be a handful but it should hook up pretty well for an mx5. No probs Begbie, will do :-)

Holy ****!

Are you still using the standard gearbox with that? You're going to destroy it surely?!

Moved to a 6 speed last year after getting fed up replacing the 5 speed boxes.

Full spec list is something like:

Built engine
Gt3071r
1000cc injectors
eBay intercoooler and DIY pipework
Mega squirt standalone ecu
Wilwood 4 piston calipers up front
Sport 276mm rear brakes with bias valve
Gaz gold pro coilovers
Fully polybushed
Rota k7 15x9 wheels with 3mm spacers up front to clear wishbones on full lock
225/45/15 R888 all round
Torsen diff
F1 stage 3 paddle clutch
Devils own water injection spraying just after the intercoooler
Hard dog m2 sport roll bar
Bolted in Hardtop brackets to stop flex
2 genuine bride fixed back buckets with schroth harnesses
No pas, no aircon, no bonnet or boot catches, plastic quarter windows, gutted doors (glass on removable hooks).

Probably other stuff I've forgotten!!

Thanks for sharing - I'm looking forward to seeing this in action and will be following this thread closely.

I'm also expecting to be in the market for an MX5 myself soon though mine will be a daily driver. :)
