I was thinking about this the other day, even though I was born in the 90's I think of the 80's having bad synthed music! I think the 00's will be remebered by...

First emergence of truly portable AND useful electronics.
Singers with weird styles, Lady Gaga...
Ring in TV talent shows.
Swanky garden centers!

What do you think the 00's will be remembered by?

Planes flying into buildings and greater erosion of personal privacy. Iraqi War 2.

Stupid governments spending money they don't have and banks going bust.

Recession and the day the world turned to **** on 9/11, resulting in mass erosion of freedoms and liberties worldwide. In short, the decade where not just fundamentalists, but the politicians and the businessmen as well who went to war against the common man.

The rapid advancement of user and consumer technology is up there too. 2000-2010 was a crazy time for gadgets and improvements to the individual way of life through them.

Fixed that for you, mister.

After all what is a democracy without its stupid population.

For me so far about remembering the 00's:

The day that changed the world forever, and the start of war on terrorism - 9/11
2002 Bali Bombing
2003 war with Iraq
7/7 Bombings
Global economical crisis
Slightly different, but I will never forget when Michael Jackson died too.

Gothic/progressive metal, the Internet, Belgian beer, world cinema and streaming porn.

I don't care about the rest of the world.

Haven't seen the Madrid Train bombings mentioned yet. It was a lot more devastating in terms of statistics than the 7/7 bombings. I can't believe it's been 8 years since it happened either and that despite being only 10 years old the news from the time is still pretty clear to me.

You have the wrong idea. Especially in America, the corporations and big businesses' lobbies have a massive say in policies. The UK has very similar.
There's nothing the general population can do about it. To say it's a problem with democracy is profoundly ignorant and not taking into account the influence of these corporations in domestic and international policy.

There's a lot the general population can do about a lot of things, if they simply cared.

Unfortunately most people are morons and i become inclined to just agree with the system, purely out of pity.

- 9/11
, but I will never forget when Michael Jackson died too.

The two events I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing.
Slightly surprised 7/7 is mentioned so much. It's not the first terrorist attack we've had and were better at letting it roll off our backs than other countries.

As said mobile computing has to be up there.
Digital age mp3s and the like.
Financial crisis
The decade that the general populations minds were changed on being green.

Same here, I've always remembered exactly what I was doing on the days the events 9/11 (and I was only 12 when it happened), 7/7 & MJ dying took place.
