Whos staying on Win7 and whos going to Win8?

There's a article posted in one of the threads, that specifically talks about it.

Also the x86 tablets should be identical to the arms, with the clover-tail CPU and new GPu, which should b out at releas. Meaning identical, size, performance and power.

If the articles are saying that win8 will fail due to group policies, then so should the iPad. But guess what the iPad isn't failing in enterprise situation. Therefore articles are biased.

Not the article allready posted, but it shows they have thought about it

Im using Windows 8 developer preview on my Acer Iconia W500 and i must admit i was a bit skepticle when i looked at the new metro layout but i have to admit i find it a lot easier to navigate than i first thought even though its taking some getting used to. The whole OS is quicker on here than what Win 7 was it only takes 27 seconds to boot now where it used to take 53 seconds running 7. Its also good having the "fast boot mode" even though its basically just hibernate.

I'm finding the touchscreen more responsive and easier to navigate and the metro apps are a nice touch hopefully i can figure out how to remove the ones i dont want. Its nice that you have access to the Windows Marketplace shame they didnt have that with win 7 but then again win 8 is basically windows phone os tweaked for desktop.

All in all a good OS and if the pricing is true that you can buy it for under £50 then im seriously considering purchasing a full copy for the tablet.

It will be interesting to see whether the power consumption and passive cooling ability of the new x86 stuff matches ARM, as long as the weight comes down and the battery life goes up then that's a plus. I've not been impressed with Intel's mobile play in the past (which confused me greatly when they gave me an iPad, as if to say 'look what we aren't capable of yet') so it will be nice to have some competition.

I haven't read anything that says no GPO = fail, authors were trying to figure out why Microsoft decided to go down the path of needing MDM software to look after RT, when chances are you already have Active Directory. My point is that if the costs to look after Windows RT tablets are identical to the costs of looking after an iPad, then why wouldn't you deploy the one that people are asking you for daily already?

If you have a link to that article then I'll read it in the morning.

Apparently if you run the preview OS it's £40 to upgrade come January (they have their eye on OSX being cheap) I've got at least 1 PC with a slightly fudged install so will be going win 8 with that. Desktop and laptop.... probably not.

Ive got Win7 and intend to upgrade to Win8. I got the RC on an old hard drive on my desktop, but will buy a new SSD to use with Win 8. Would I need to install Win 7 on this first to get the cheaper £40 upgrade to Win 8?

I'm going to upgrade my desktop and laptop. I'm running the Release Preview on both at the moment. I have had no real issues with the traditional desktop environment and i'm happy that Flight Simulator X and REX2 install and work perfectly. I've also installed Skyrim and it plays well.

I've had a few 'bugs' with the Metro Mail, News and Travel apps, thats all. However, I find that the only Metro app I really use is Mail as it provides a quick way of checking my Hotmail. I've not really used any of the others, this could change as and when more useful apps come out. I've not found i've missed the Stat menu at all.

Windows 8 Beta drivers are now avialble for the Asus P8Z77-V PRO and had been available for a while for my ThinkPad X220 laptop. I'm looking forward to RTM and hopefully some nice improvements to the metro apps.

I think we quickly learn to do things differently in Windows 8. I occasionally wish for the start menu but only really quite rarely. Mind I pinned important applications to the quick launch bar. I think that eases the transition.

I delete Metro Mail in favour of Thunderbird which is more capable. things could change but I rather doubt there will be a very capable metro mail app for quite a while.

You'll miss out on the upgrade offer then.

Ill be doing the same - ill wait and see what the first wave of consumers think - the fact it'll only be £40 or whatever it will be isnt a reason to upgrade. e.g in hindsight I wouldnt have installed the abomination vista fof free was when it was first released - driver support was a joke.

Will probably stick with Win7 then if its not taken to by the masses move to Win9 when that comes out. Win7 has support until 2015 so there is no rush to jump off this decent version of Windows

I know a lot of people are complaining about metro but once you get used to its pretty good.

I think Microsofts main reason for windows 8 is for the next gen tablets and the current ones and to see if they can get a share of the market to rival Apple and Google Android.

Even Microsofts Surface looks promising although i must admit im not ready to start gaming on touchscreen devices alone i will continue to use my pc for that.

Also i don't think they will be forcing any of us to stop using windows 7(If it isn't broke don't fix it).

Although i do know that new laptops will have multitouch touchpads and even then you will still have the use of the keyboard and mice if you use them.

So for me i will be upgrading my tablet to Windows 8 if the price is right as i have noticed Windows 8 performs a lot better than what windows 7 did.

In future though i will still be using windows 7 on my desktop as i don't see the need to upgrade it to Windows 8 not unless i decide to get any touchscreen monitors and even then i will still use a keyboard and mouse.

I was really looking forward to Windows 7...

But windows 8 no chance, it doesn't show me anything that gives me that download thrill!

Do we know yet if MS are doing a super cheap pre order price for the full license like they did with Win7 ? I'm thinking I'll keep my win7 license and buy a cheap win 8 if its offered cheap on pre order.

There will be an OEM version you can get for a home build but there is otherwise only upgrade versions aviailable to buy.
