Stronghold Kingdoms ** - the world’s first castle based MMO - **

Arise, olde thread!

Did everyone stop playing this? I've only just discovered it last night (via Steam) and I'm really liking what I see. Looks like I've started in a not particularly active parish in Scotland on world 4. Did the tutorial and now I'm just concentrating on getting my little village up and running. I've also read through this whole thread so thanks for the tips! :) Might have got Tals playing it too.

It lost appeal after getting crushed by a far higher ranked player once I exited the protected stage.

Having to start again from scratch in another parish soon lost its appeal.

Spoke to the developers of stronghold ( kingdoms ), gave them some great pointers and they wanted a picture of me with a dev guy, " lets take a photo of the fan " :D. Brilliant bunch of guys. Stronghold kingdoms was fun!

Btw - Knights of honour 2 anyone?, will say no more :p

DEFENDER

WINS

:D

Seriously i've done rather well so far, got a good level, defended myself against attacks, plenty of gold and honour. But i'm rather peeved at the owner or the big boss of the parish telling me what i can and can't do!. If i want to attack someone in a completely different country i'll do so!, there is an achievement as such.

This annoyed me today

" Neil are you taking this game serious? "

I enjoy the game how I play it

my reply

errr yes why? I have a life you know and need to go out and do things, i cant sit and stare at the screen all day. Considering i've defended myself against every attack, at a good level, and making a good trade i think i'm doing rather well

That's why I eventually stopped. I don't like the parish mechanics at all; so much depends on the parish you're in and you have no say over it (although I suppose you can always abandon your villages).

My parish was usually deathly quiet, and it belonged to a house which had formed a stupid alliance with all the other big houses, leaving us with nobody to fight. It made for an extremely boring game.

Apparently the devs are doing something about it.

^ that's good, ended up talking to the parish owner a bit of a miscommunication on both sides however there was a bit of " what are you doing " at the start, yet in the wiki it clearly shows about attacking other villages and the achievements you get. I'll play it how i want to play it unless you give me something in return ;)

As Huw says, the game is very dependent on your starting location.
Only way to really do anything about that is to abandon and start somewhere else or to find someone you know who can 'make some room' for you in a parish local to them.

I played the game for a long while and stopped around 12 months ago because it seemed to be too much like a job having to keep on top of your castle etc.

They had just started bringing in some tools to make this a little easier when I left (saving castle plans for quick rebuild etc.) but it was basic stuff that should have been full blown automation of castle reparis to a set plan.

Would be interesting to go back and see what they've done in 12 months. They should have concentrated on making this a great game rather than the reportedly not so great SH3.

Wars were fun in SHK but not always when you were at the sharp end of the pointy stick! :D

Neil, any reason why you're not filling in the gaps in your castle? Not sure what level you're at but you really want a solid mass of towers to survive a high level attack. Even then if you're offline and an organised faction is gunning for you then you will not survive.

Level 11, have to do a bit at a time

Firefly Studios announces that Stronghold Kingdoms has surpassed the one million player milestone:
Stronghold Kingdoms, consistently the second most popular free-to-play game on Steam for nearly five months now, has reached 1,000,000 registered players. "Adiewux" joined World 3 on Monday at 11:45 BST, bringing the total number of Lords and Ladies playing Kingdoms to a massive one million. World 3 was the first of many new game worlds launched to keep pace with a huge influx of new players, following the game’s Steam launch in February. Reaching one million players has been a goal of Firefly’s for some time now and achieving it opens the door to even greater heights. The company hopes that with new markets and platforms, such as the recently launched Amazon Game Connect, the Kingdoms playerbase will continue to grow in 2012 and beyond.

Neil is that your castle? If so it's going to be stomped when any half serious player decides to take it :)

To elaborate, walls are basically utter **** to stop attacks as any troops can knock them down. What you want is the entire castle area covered with (great) towers, as only catapults can take them down, forcing attacking troops to fight through the 1 wall wide gaps between each one.

Maybe but i hate the way this game does castles, no castle in the world looks like most of the ones in this game!. Besides as i said before I can only build in the time allocated, it's taking upto a day just to build two sometimes!

I'm not a massivly high level player and no player could have an entire wall of towers of this size at the level i am. 1day 12hrs just to build 3 damn towers :(

You need to research construction :) My latest 'acquisition' has been building it's castle for about 10 days now and theres still 7 to go. Also as you get higher level the ai attacks get stronger. The last Wolf attack on one of my villages was 600+ troops and I did repulse it but at a larger than normal cost! It's worth researching diplomacy as well as that gives you a chance to avoid an attack completely and still get the full honour for it.

What level are you?

ATTACK WON...

Rubbish!! utter Rubbish

You can clearly see where the enemy attacked, but although they got past the moat they never got past that wall, yet the attacker won?!?

I don't ever remember castles being lost or kingdoms being destoryed in history just because they got upto a wall, that white line is such BS! you should be pillaged by touching the keep. There are some really silly bits in this game i mean just look at the retarded castle designs, all towers no walls
