Four years ago, I fell in love. Things started off great, hot and passionate. We felt like we could do anything. After a while things got a little too hot and I knew we couldn't keep this up without help, so I got something to help us keep things cool. Since then we've of course had our ups and downs like all relationships but we've stuck it out.

It seems now that my love is cheating on me. She presents me with weird things that must be meant for someone else. Other times she'll just up and walk out without so much as a "I've had enough, no more games".

I just don't know what to do. Do I give up my love and find someone new? Or do I keep trying to fix things?
Help me OcUKenobi, you're my only hope.

Any way, I am of course referring to my beloved 4870x2 which I bought 2nd hand almost 4 years ago.
Been getting all sorts of random BSODs regarding the card/drivers and I think I've just about had enough (I've tried many, many different drivers).

So tell me oh wise ones, where should I go from here? I really haven't kept up to speed on graphics cards since the 4series.
My requirements are as follows:

  • £200 (ish - could go up a little if it's really, really worth it (see point 3))
  • 1920x1200 on monitor 1 and 1680x1050 on monitor 2 (last time I used Nvidia they were a bit poo dealing with dual monitor set ups with different resolutions. I imagine they've improved somewhat?)
  • Good enough so that I won't need to upgrade again for another few years
  • Single core cards only. Can't be bothered with Crossfire again.
  • Manufacturer must have UK (Europe at a push) returns base for warranty (just in case).
  • Needs to output to 2 monitors (1 HDMI/DVI (I don't think I have HDMI cables though) and 1 DVI).
NB. I don't play games across both monitors, only on the 1920x1200.

Your assistance, as always, is much appreciated. :)

well gigabyte has a uk rma service, idk much about vtx3d...so im assuming you can deal with ocuk for rma?
but post sales customer service aside, and all things being equal, the 7950 on offer should be a no brainer really, considering its just 20 quid more than the gb 7870 wf

Cheers everyone. :)

Looks like the 7950 it is!
Just found a hdmi>dvi cable in my box o' **** too, so that's that sorted (edit: just read a review and saw it comes with a myriad of converters, so no worries there :))

Poor Mr DebitCard though. He wasn't expecting this. :p:D

By the way, what CPU are you using?

Got the AMD x6 1055T, at 3.6GHz.

(card should be here tomorrow, but unfortunately we have family friends invading the house so installation will have to be postponed till the weekend :()
