hey guys, i cracked the screen on my s2. its gonna cost 120 to fix. should i fork that out or pay 110 for a nokia lumia 800? been offered one for that price. cheers

no? im 17 :/ well i have contents insurance but the excess premium thing is £80 anyways, i could go that route but then our insurance would go up anyways...

Just to add, the 800 is a damn fine phone unless you like downloading app's because the marketplace is pap. but I'm glad I have it as nokia music and maps actually sell the phone over any Android device at the moment if I'm honest.

Repair the SGS2 for 120, recycle it for 200, buy the 800 for 120?

Or try to recycle the SGS2 as broken, and buy the 800 - if that nets you more.

Just to note, if the gorilla glass is attracting you to the Lumia 800, it still shatters with the right impact :(

Otherwise it's a great wee phone and I've really enjoyed using mine. Some of the limitations are a bit **** (no VoIP for example) but it's very fluid and immediate.

Is the SGS2 really that expensive to repair?

There simply is no better handset out right now (I include the heavier SGS3 in this) so you may as well get it repaired.

120 to fix a screen lol

do it yourself

for my old iphone 3gs a phone shop said it would cost me 100 quid for the digitizer i laughed bought parts off ebay for a tenner and fixed in a matter of ten mins

I'm also confused by that statement there's a marked improvement between the s2 and s3, if you love your s2 that much I'd stick with it and splash the cash out for a new screen.

yes sadly the screen and digitizer are stuck together and cannot be seperated, hence a repair is £120+ the actual parts alone are over 100 on ebay anyways, so I'd rather pay £120 to have a professional do it and guarantee it for me.

think thats what im going to do if the insurance wont repair/replace/give me a voucher for carphone warehouse or something.

Interesting.. care to elaborate?

The S2 was the leader. It should have been pipped by the S3 but instead they brought out this bigger, heavier, PDA-esque looking device.

Alll imho of course. I've owned iPhones etc too, really liked them but the S2 was technically superior.

Maybe the next iPhone will be outright awesome but it's not here yet :)

So the S2 was the leader... then they improved it in every possible way, and made it a bit bigger to facilitate the HD screen.

You're moaning because it's 17 grams heavier...

The S2 isn't really technically superior to the iPhone 4S either, depending on how you look at it.

Dude on your 3500th bench press you're gona notice that kind of weight, I know I did when I moved from my Apollo to my Note, which is far superseded by my son's S3.

In non shop lighting conditions the button colour difference isn't as ridiculous as I thought before, unless the Note2 is amazing I'll get myself an S3 soon.

Can't agree with you on the S3 being a PDA, it's barely bigger and better in every way like Robbo says. Only thing I don't like about the S3 is the home button which is too small and not very ergonomic.
