Does anyone here work in the funeral industry?

lol, I think I'm good for humour. Think I'd be good at the job in fact, I just can't find out much about salary and working conditions etc.

Doing what exactly? I've heard the undertakers and the like are rife with nepotism. I also imagine it wouldn't be a very nice job, and very draining.

It's for a job as a funeral arranger, so basically going through options, ensuring everything is in place, basically being the main person dealing with the bereaved.

I know someone who's mother does that. It's a sales job but one where you need to be very delicate and professional. She did complain that her mother was sometimes unhappy at having to sell additional services to the bereaved.

If you've got an interview then logically I'd suggest you come across as someone who would have the manners of the traditional valet but who would understand and be able to upsell.

Well, currently I'm an IT rep, I travel around all the main electrical retailers on behalf of IT brands doing training etc. I fell into that after being made redundant from my last job as a careers and intensive support adviser for young people (ironic...)

Just looking for something a bit less mental in terms of hours on the road and something where I can use my people skills. Also worked with the Samaritans for a few years answering the phones etc so I'm pretty good with devestated people..

So who draws the comedy faces on the clients?

Humanist funerals are pretty cool, the conventional coffin taxi rituals we have now are really grim and depressing. If you are about to snuff it then check out the former.

At least you'll have a captivated audience for your stand up

True! I've had to knock that on the head since the start of this year as I couldn't fit in gigging with my day job any more :( breaks my heart but I'll go back to it sometime.
