i2500K overclock = lower 3dmark 2011 score?

Hi chaps.

I have recently got my new system up and running which was way over due! I have noticed when overclocking the CPU that my 3dmark score drops while the physics increase??

I have tried searching the net and the only thing I've found is something to do with catalyst control center throttling the GPU speed? Surely not if it's the CPU speed I'm increasing not the GPU? Have I hit a bottleneck perhaps? Or an unstable overclock even with a test on prime95?

My system is;
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3
Sandybridge i2500K @ 4Ghz (lower score at 4.6Ghz)
Corsair A50 CPU Cooler
Kingston Blu (2x2) 4GB 1600mhz
Radeon R6870 MSi

CPU Clock at 4Ghz, 3dmark score was P4650, CPU at 4.6Ghz was P4498??

I think it's worth mentioning that in both tests the GPU was overclocked mildly too.

Any help would be hugely appreciated

Just ran another test both with stock GPU settings.

CPU @ 4ghz;
P4448
GFX score : 4157
Physics score : 7292
Combined : 4204

CPU @ 4.4Ghz
P4471
GFX Score : 4152
Physics Score : 7802
Combined : 4206

The figures just don't seem to add up?

So he's surprised that the P score is higher with a higher CPU overclock ? We know that the 2500K has iGFX and, when the mobo supports LucidVirtu (Z68), some of the GFX processing is sent to the gfx card and some to the CPU/iGFX, as LucidVirtu sees fit. Presumably some of the P score work is being sent to the CPU and thus score the increases with CPU overclock.

I think he was surprised it was 152 lower with a 4.6ghz overclock than it was with a 4ghz overclock, he has since redone the test and got a P score that was higher with the overclock (23 higher at 4.4 than at 4.0).

@OP perhaps the CPU could be throttling due to heat with the higher overclocks? /shrug

Sorry chaps, maybe I wasn't very clear with my posts. I was talking about the Pxxxx score, the gfx score is also lower on the overclock?
I was intrigued by the results. On prime 95, the highest core temp I was getting after several hours was 78*C. I was under the impression that anything below 80*C is ok really. Is there an option in the bios to disable CPU throttling or is this not advised?
Do you think my gfx card is a little on the tame side and that's the bottle neck on the system? I was just aiming to get the most from the system for gaming and it appears from the results that running at say 4.5Ghz makes little difference other than running the CPU a little hotter, or am I reading this all wrong? I feel like a bit of a noob.
