Le Tour de France - starts 30 June 2012

I think it was a let down that the cameras didn't follow Wiggins and Froome as they crossed the line... wanted to see their reactions.

Wiggo lucky to have such a loyal servant and even with the time trial to come just has to stay on his bike to win it.

Hardest passes Ive done in the UK is in the lakes, Wrynose then straight after the Hardnott pass.

Haha, when i did those, not only were people walking up, but there was also people walking down the other side again because it's so steep :D
(Yes, i was one of the people walking up :( )

Would love the Tour of Britain to go over the Wrynose/Hardnott near the end of a stage. The TOB seems a bit boring atm.. There used to be some sick climbs in the old milk race, they did the 1/3 climbs no worries.

I know why they dont because there isnt any big town/city nearby for the finish/hospitality but still for one day... ;)

Also, it was quite funny one day at the foot of the hardnott pass there was a biker who just could not get up the first bit (which is ridiculous) me and my mate sat having a butty while we watched him try over and over to get enough momentum to get over the first ramp.

Ah, ive cycled a few times and the 25% part starts after the first corner and goes for a good mile, and flattens out towards the top.. I was going by the road signage tho..

You can also try putting it into a route planner like bikehike.co.uk, it can show gradient. There are 2 steep sections near the village which reach 25%, but they are only around 150metres long.

11% is very steep!
Looking on strava for something to compare it near redditch, but (unsurprisingly) i cant find anything.
prospect hill is probably the closest, but it only averages 5%, with 8% max. (and is a 28th of the length)
The steepest I've climbed in one ride is the Cat and Fiddle, Winnats Pass and Holme Moss as part of the 100 mile Tour of the Peaks. Holme Moss averages 12% over 2km and is also the highest classified road in England.

I've also done Mow Cop which has a final run of 25% for 200 metres (2 miles total climbing)

Clearly none of these come anywhere near the mountain stages in the tour.

::Edit::
If you're interested in challenging UK climbs then this book is worth buying.

Ive done the cat and fiddle which was ok, Wynnats pass is familiar but I cant remember it, but Holme moss is tough, constant drag and very bleak/black moorland either side doesn't help.

None compare to the wrynose/harnott

Im looking on the net to get facts into a climb from Penrith to Alston, north Cumbria, this was a very unexpected high/long climb to our shelter, it didn't help that it was snowing at the time.

Hartside. It's on the coast to coast. About 8km long if memory serves? I've only climbed it once when doing the 140 mile Workington to Tynemouth route. Lots of switchbacks. Long, but not steep. Was a good climb. :)

I was hoping Froome would go and catch Valverde today. Wiggins is going to smash everyone to bits in the time trial anyway so he could have afforded to lose a couple of seconds.

Do you think Froome might want to have a crack at the Vuelta this year?

Well well aparently Sat & Sunday are to be covered by ITV1.

Yep. Cue all those that think they know everything about cycling, have always been into it, and want to latch onto a bit of glory.

Can I have my minority sport back please. Thanks.

I also can't wait for the advertisers to get hold of it. Magic.

Also cudos the Cavendish. Where are all those idiots that said he would quit half way? I'd put my mortgage on him winning on Sunday.

Really? You sound a bit like one of those hipsters who are into bands I've never heard of then complain that they've gone all mainstream. I like cycling because I like cycling, I don't measure my enjoyment of it by how many other people like it too.
