Door to Door sales ripping off elderly

A mate has an elderley neighbour (decorated war vet) who told him they were charged £300 to fit freeview by a local firm.

He called the company up and told them to refund the labour or he was going to go to the local papers. Suffice to say they refunded everything including the box and let him keep it.
 
Contracts are not valid if the person is considered incapacitated. Phone them up and tell them that your grandad has dementia and the contract is now void. Tell them if they have a problem with that, they are willing to go to court on the basis of him being incapacitated. Then just bin the contract, well keep it for your records but just ignore it.

For the elderly it might be best to look into security cameras and then as long as they don't answer it, it is a hell of a lot cheaper than signing a 2K contract.

I agree, door to door selling has to end. It causes more problems then it solves. Honest businesses shoudn't have to knock on doors to get custom.
 
What I suggest to anyone who does not want people knocking at your door is to print out a sign and laminate it, something like this.

Would it not be better worded as "We do not buy anything at the door step". It sounds pedantic, but if it's going on your door then it's important.
 
Just put a sign in plain view that says:

NO COLD CALLERS
NO UNSOLICITED UTILITIES
NO CHARITIES
NO RELIGIONS

And then in much smaller text but on the same sign:

By willingly disturbing the peace of (Your address) you hereby agree to pay the sum of £100.00, you can confirm your agreement of said terms by use of knocking/doorbell, failure to pay will result in prosecution.
 
If they do come round, phone the please and say one of them has a gun. You will get the whole station down there in under 2 minutes.

If you don't do this, they will not turn up and will be all sipping tea in the nick or out catching evil speeding motorists.

My mate did this when he cornered a guy trying to rob his shed. The police weren't happy but nothing happened, apart from they caught a crock!
