Utd's BEST counter attacking football in the past decade was Berbatov upfront with Rooney running in from the left and Ronaldo from the right, the fastest/best counter attack in the league was spear headed by Berbatov

You're the only person I've ever seen express this opinion which makes me inclined to believe it's nonsense. You love these grand statements that can't actually be substantiated.

The obvious question being, is that €38m transfer fee, or ~total deal cost~ (transfer fee + wages)? I presume the former, as people have been talking about that being his fee, etc, etc.

I believe it's the transfer fee.

They originally (allegedly) wanted £30m, and we've now just about offered that, so it's possible terms have been agreed with the club.

It's a lot of money though, blimey!

Blimey that is one hell of a deal for Lucas. He is a good player, possibly great but a huge gamble.

Adebayor deal to Spurs looks to be on the rocks, Spurs either wasting time so they aren't paying his wages or are trying to get him cheaper. Lokomotiv Moscow have come in for him and will pay his full wages and give us a nice fee. Highly doubtful he will move there however :(

No idea what we'd do with Lucas if that is true :p

How on earth does Nani, Young, Valencia, Lucas, Kagawa, Rooney and Welbeck/Hernandez fit into a lineup?!? Surely both Kagawa and Moura would want to be in the hole behind a striker?

I've seen every competitive Man Utd game for as long as I can remember and I guarantee you we've never played (for a prolonged period of time) an attacking 3 of Rooney + Berbatov + Ronaldo

On one hand I'd be inclined to say this is just another case where a player is being badly advised by his agent but on the other hand - Morrison, Pogba, Fryers, Welbeck? Dunno why but we've having a hard time keeping these young players at the club, the debt crippling our ability to up these boys wage?

Welbeck's a local lad (albeit so were Fryers and Morrison) but he's in the first team so one would imagine leaving the club would be the last thing he'd want....

The bit in bold is something you've been saying for ages and its the biggest piece of **** anyone has ever said on here.
Firstly, last season or the season before he managed to take the ball on the wing, run it past a defender and score a great goal, secondly Utd's BEST counter attacking football in the past decade was Berbatov upfront with Rooney running in from the left and Ronaldo from the right, the fastest/best counter attack in the league was spear headed by Berbatov, lastly, there isn't a player on earth who can run faster than someone else can kick the ball.

Speed with the ball has no bearing at all on the pace of the game, none.

Its MUCH quicker to hit a ball up to Berbatov who will control with one touch and play someone in behind with his second, than give it to Rooney on the half way line and watch him run at the goal.

Berbatov doesn't slow down your football, he speeds it up, the only time he can't do this is when the team is playing the "leave Berbatov upfront and refuse to go forwards tactics", which they did on several occasions last season.

You might talk about his record compared to the **** strikers, but why is it you and most other UTD fans bang on and on about Rooney and the other work he does for the team. Welbeck and particularly Hernandez are rubbish outside of the box, Berbatov is BRILLIANT outside the box and playing creative football, he does SO much more than just score goals, which he also does exceptionally well. You're ignoring when/how most of his appearances happened, he had 5 starts , 7 sub appearances and got 7 goals, Welbeck started 23 games AND made 9 sub appearances and got 9 goals.

Berbatov played 521 minutes with 7 goals, Welbeck played on 2012 minutes, with 9 goals. Hernandez with 18 starts, 10 sub appearances, almost 1500 minutes got 10 goals.

Hernandez and Welbeck had the confidence of the manager AND the fans, Berbatov had neither, has had neither for 2 years.

So yes, 7 goals in 5 starts is actually pretty much amazing and exactly what you'd expect of a 30mil striker, as was his ability on the ball, vision, touch, passing, holding the ball, through balls, finishing, quality. The ONLY reason he didn't score 15+ goals is he played 521 minutes of football. It's even better when you consider the fans are against him, the manager has shown time and time again he has no confidence in him, he hasn't had a good run of games(though not surprisingly the best run of games he had with only one game missed produced the majority of his goals.... funny that). If he had the confidence of manager and fans, if people didn't give him a hard time for not running around aimlessly but "looking" effective, and if he started the majority of games he'd have been one of your two best players last year.

Dear lord that's some opinion you got their son for an Arsenal fan.

If you wan't to be taken seriously or your point of view taken seriously at least have the ******* decency to speak to people in a ******* polite manner instead of being so damned rude !!!!!!

All that claptrap about players not running faster than the ball is nothing more than stating the bloody obvious, so well done

The fact is when we are counter attacking and the ball is slid between the CB and FB Berbatov should be making those runs to pick the ball up. He does not. Watch Paul Scholes, he very rarely plays the ball to feet. He plays it infront of the attacker so they can run onto it, be it our wingers or full backs. The same as Carrick, Rooney, Ronaldo etc. Berbatov constantly wants the ball to feet. It's not our game to do that. But I guess you knew all that watching all the United games and collating all the stats you have.

The Other Fact is that no Unted fan is against him as you suggest, they want him to do well. What United fans are against is his languid style constant shoulder shrugging if the ball is not played to his feet and his general air of not giving a **** as the game goes on around him. The right player without undoubted talent and questionable attitude and application.

And RVP being Miles better than Rooney, please have a word with yourself. To go down your route of spouting stats ad nauseum, check out RVP vs Rooney and there is probably a Fly's Foreskin in it

RVP - 356 Club appearances, 154 goals, 72 assists (Goal Ratio 0.432)

International - 68 Apps - 29 Goals

Wayne Rooney 443 Club Appearances 199 Goals (Goal Ratio 0.449)

International 75 Apps - 29 Goals

I am guessing RVP is miles better because

He has won Zero titles to Waynes 4 - Bad Example

He has won Zero League Cups to Waynes 2 - Bad Example

He has won 1 Community Shield to Waynes 3 - Bad Example

He has won 0 Champions Leagues to Waynes 1 - Bad Example

He has won 0 FIFA World Club Championships to Waynes 1 - Bad Example

He has won 0 Goals of the Season - to Wayne's 3 - Bad Example

Premier League team of the Season 1 - Wayne 3 - Bad Example

FA Fan's Player of the year 1 - Wayne 2

Goal of the month 3 - Wayne 6

Not doing to well at the RVP is Miles better than Rooney game am I

Arsenal Player of the year 4 - Shucks you finally got me.

So to suggest he is Miles better is utter Poppycock. But I guess a very average side have just carried him to all them accolades, awards and Trophys. Haters gonna Hate

This could be a liverpool-esque £100 million spending spree if we get both. Lucas is more likely than RvP I would think but have we actually had confirmation from either club about any offers. The standard line is "trusted sources in the club says that United have had a €38 million euro offer rejected".

I think Fergie has been hurt by losing the league to MC and has gone to the board asking to spend big to reinvigorate his team. Reminds me a bit of 10 years ago when he was going to retire aftering winning the CL and 3x league on the bounce, but then Arsenal won the double so he felt motivated again, cancelled retirement and started splashing the cash on Rio etc. I think his pride takes a hit when they are bested.
