The Times running Skrtel to City. We are a bit short at CB and for the right amount he could be a good signing.

Also rumours we are going to sign a 13yr old from Birmingham. Smashing any record for his age of course ;)

rumours of Niang also but I think he wannts to go to Arsenal.

Nick's right in this case, United fans made Fletcher out to be a better player while he was injured than he ever was when he played. He was a good solid squad man, occasionally he had a stunning game or two but generally he was just reliable.

I dont think anyone claims him to be Xavi like (not like Xavick) but like Lucas at Liverpool it's pretty undeniable that in the big games especially Fletcher excelled and generally was MOTM. I've no doubts had he not been suspended in the 2009 final we'd have done better in the game (may still not have won but I dont think we'd of been as bad as we was)

Arsenal have received bids for captain Robin van Persie from Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus.

The 28-year-old Netherlands striker will not be part of the Gunners squad that travels to Asia on Saturday for a three-match pre-season tour.

It is understood that City, United and Juve have tabled offers in the region of £15m, but Arsenal are keen to hold out for a fee of £25-30m.

Van Persie's contract ends in 2013 and he says he will not sign a new deal.

More to follow.

Looks like we are actually in for him then! £30m though? That's a touch steep.

Something a tad more substantial on the Lucas Moura situation:

United's Lucas bid rejected

Sao Paulo insist that they have turned down an offer from Manchester United for Lucas Moura.

The midfield ace, who is currently in England with Brazil's Olympic squad, was reportedly the subject of a €35million (£27million) offer from the Red Devils.

The Premier League giants are reported to have dispatched a delegation to Sao Paulo last week, led by chief scout Jim Lawlor, to try and broker a deal.

An offer is reported to have been made, but the Brazilian outfit say it is not enough, having already shunned approaches from Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

Director Marco Aurelio Cunha explained that they consider only Neymar would be worth more in Brazil, and with his valuation over £50millon it shows how highly Lucas is regarded by Sao Paulo.

I wonder if we'll raise it to £30m, that should mean we'd get him.

I've seen a few people write about Moura who watch a lot of him and he is hit and miss from the sounds of him, I've even seen him called the Brazilian Walcott. From what I've read he certainly doesn't sound like a £30m+ player, and imo paying that for anybody straight out of the Brazilian league is just asking for trouble, it's an old cliche, but they don't always translate to European leagues easily. Seems like a big gamble to me and I am surprised.

yeah I agree when I saw some videos of him he seemed to look and play like walcott. A little more skillful I think. But I certainly wouldnt pay £20-30m for walcott. So I wouldnt pay for one that is not going to be as availble with him being brazilian

Thought this was fun, southampton have signed Paulo Gazzaniga from Gillingham for an undisclosed fee with TOMMY FORECAST going the other way on season long loan :D

The 20 year old keeper is supped to be highly rated and has had a decent run of form at Gillingham last season, may not be our instant 2nd choice but has a lot of potential :)

The Tommy Forecast news is more exciting, he's only got a year left on his contract and he should be stuck there for a year! Agreed by every team that we loaned him out too (mostly semi-pro at that) as the single worst "professional" in the known universe.

Sorry to any Gillingham fans in advance.

Despite the massive age gap I'd much rather we went and got RVP rather than Lucas (my man crush on MJ/Nani though probably plays a part in this)

Arsenal have turned down a bid from Manchester United for Robin van Persie. Story to follow …

What did I say, Arsenal will never sell to Man Utd :(

I agree.

If he goes to Utd, he will improve them. If he goes to Juve then he is out of the league. And if he goes to City then they already have many strikers so he isnt going to make that much of a change there, might even upset the balance. Who knows lol

Yeah, it sounds like they rejected our bid then.

To be fair, we probably offered the least of all three teams, we could still improve it, but I doubt Fergie will get drawn into a bidding war. That's what Arsenal want. With that in mind he'll no doubt end up at City. They can effortlessly afford him.

Hopefully with at least two in the race they will push up the value. I wouldnt be surprised if they still offered him to Juve at a slightly lower price though.

Never suggested Fletcher was a world beater, but he is better than the options Utd have (fit) at present

Doesnt sound like RvP will even entertain going to City (which has been going around for days) - so its a case of who backs down first Arsenal selling to Utd for a larger fee, or RvP backing down and heading to Juve

is it concrete that you offered £30m? if so, that's pretty ridiculous. especially if you end up offering more.

has ferguson learned nothing from the berbatov scenario? i can't see how RVP would fit. unless (as others have said) he would make rooney play deeper and this is an explanation for why you're not looking to offer anything for modric...

What's seemingly concrete is that we offered £27m for Lucas, not RVP.

We've probably offered £10-15m for RVP, so it's not a surprise that it's been rejected.

I just cant see them selling to Utd, even if they offered more money, City would beat it. City arent going to be put off by £25m value. I think he will go between £20-25 personally.

Hopefully they spend the money straight away and then we will have let RVP go and got three strikers in. Wenger might even push Walcott up front to tempt him into signing another contract

So can Man Utd, or you wouldn't be spending £20m on Kagawa, bidding on RvP, bidding £30m for a kid in Brazil etc. you are absolutely loaded.
