Teen attempts to grap Olympic Torch

The Olympic torch thing is stupid and was actually created by the Hitlers government in the 30s i believe.

Why don't they just courier the thing to the destination, what is the point of the torch and what does it represent?

How much money was spent carting that thing around the country? million £? they could have spent that on any number of things.

Groen - Sounds like groan, quite appropriate for this post I feel!

The history of an Olympic flame dates back to the Greeks and the ancient Olympics, along with the tradition of somebody running across the continent to notify everyone of the forthcoming games.

The modern relay may have been devised at the Berlin Olympics while under Nazi rule, but the spirt of the games isn't about politics, so I don't feel that it really carries a Nazi association with it.

Inregards to money, the relay is being heavily funded by sponsors.

Should have just burnt him......In the face. They should just develop the torch with a button on the side, to turn it in to a huge flamethrower with a 10ft flame. That will stop those pesky chavs.

I think your school should spend less time watching torches and a more time teaching English.

:D

On a more serious note. Why would he want to grab the torch? So he can tell his grandchildren "When the Olympics came to London in 2012... I grabbed that torch off of a Polish lady."

What a bad story that would be. :(

Wow, didn't realise the relay still going.. does anyone give a ****?

Have you ever watched the Olympics before?
You do realise the flame is ran until the opening ceremony of the games when it is lit at the main location hosting it.

As for does anyone care... yes given the thousands that have turned up to line the streets and attend the parties each day.

I know I'm going to watch when it comes down my street on Thursday.

:D

Dont know about this one, but the one that happened in Coventry, I dont think they were intending on taking it, I think it was that they just wanted to have the chance to run or "touch" the torch, so they say

If that's the case then you should just gather in McDonalds.

I thought it was Burger King that flame grilled their burgers :o

Seems some people like a bit of a grumble, it's not like we get to host the Torch run every year ffs!

Ummm... It's mostly driven of course... It's not a single torch, but thousands of individual ones.... It's in no way a historical practice, being introduced by the Nazi's...

It's a silly waste of money IMHO...

Is that dude in the background holding a gun (on the left) :p just in case someone runs off with it

I don't think so! :D

I'm not particularly bothered about the Olympics/Torch relay. I didn't go to see it myself when it was in Bedford, but I won't be grumpy about it! :p

E: NEGATIVE NELLY! That's the term I was looking for! I won't be a Negative Nelly!
