no gtx 660 till august?

im not sure why they saying a 570 would make it look bad, very different cards, i think its more going to depend how close they price it to the 670 bcos thats a great value card with the overclocking

i guess it will launch at 220 huh? 250 with a fancy cooler?
they cant go much higher if a 670 is sub 300 ^_^

The 7850 performs well enough at its price point without overclocking but when overclocked the value for money it provides is excellent. Unless the 660 can compete directly with that - those price points would price it out of 7850 range - then only somebody locked into a nVidia set up (monitor choice) would consider it.

It needs to be cheaper than what you say and it needs to beat the 7850 out the box as it won't have as much overclocking headroom I don't think.

I agree with Rusty. Although I think it will be positioned closer to the 7870 in price/performance out of the box. Just cant really see Nvidia selling GK104 chips for £180 ish. The 7870 doesnt have the overclocking headroom the 7850 has either.

With the recent price drop for the 7870 I say that is more the contender for the 660, don't you agree?

Depends on the price they release the 660 at. If it launches at £180 ish, its competition is the 7850. If it launches closer to £220, then yes it will be competing with the 7870.

i think its a much smaller card than the 7870, i dont see why it wouldnt be
i was shocked at how small the 670 is
when do we get pics :p

Anyone else a bit concerned by launch price patterns:

460 - $199
560ti - $249
660ti - $299

AMD has been doing the same. We've not moved on really from 2 years ago in terms of price/performance in the mid range.

I paid 269 for my gtx 260 216 when it came out so no not really.

Wow, didn't know they were so much. Skipped that gen of cards. Maybe I'm getting too old, looking back to the heady days when a 7600/8600/9600 all launched at under $150 and the exchange rate was better so we could get a good mid range card for £90!

They've both definitely been pushing the card prices higher over the years, the top end cards were around the £300 mark back in the 6800 Ultra days and now they top that by some way, I understand the tech has changed a lot more might be going on but damn it the good cards are pricey.

I'm still stuck with my 5850 as there isn't anything worth upgrading to for the money. The 7850 is a nice card but on average will only give me about a 30% improvement at my current resolution which for £180 isn't worth it. To have a really significant improvement I'd need to move to a 7950 (~70% performance increase) or a 670 (~105% performance increase) but then I'm looking at £240 or £280 respectively.

Just hoping that AMD and Nvidia realise there is a big market out there for a decent £150 card.

Got to admit I've been sticking around waiting for this card too, just getting the feeling I'm going to be a bit disappointed when it finally arrives. AMD seem to be doing a fair bit of price shuffling now, just this week you could find a 7850@£170, 7870@£200, 7950@£240 and the 7970@£300.

Totally with you Kranix. I'm on a 5850 too which was a steal for £125. I can't believe there's nothing in this current gpu line up between £100 and £170.

Well we already know it will be about gtx570 performance but does that mean just over or under.
Price wise I expect £200 again just over or under, we will have to wait and see.
