Does anyone use a car camera?

Been looking for one of these and the Blackvue seems the best out there.

Howard, where did you get it from as the cost between the ones on Fleabay and UK stockists is around £80. Also is it set up for parking mode or switched with the lighter socket?

Got mine from a UK eBay seller, was around £245 IIRC. I have it wired to permanent live for parking mode, although I'm not convinced as there's lots of "false positives" with the motion sensor. I guess it's still recording events though, should someone drive into my car while I'm parked.

Otherwise, it works great. Just sits there and.. works.

Thanks, the Sellers selling it for less are in the States all the UK ones are about that price. The DR380G looks good as well with no drop of quality as I can see but states its only 720p.

Just need to make a decision and then source a permanent feed in the front interior light. :D

I never even saw the DR380G when I bought mine! I'd go for the 400 though, the extra resolution will make things a lot clearer.

Did you do the install yourself Howard?

Indeed. Ran the power cable under the dashboard and into the cigarette lighter feed.

They are the ones I am looking at, the only issue is import duty but that should only be £40 maximum(unless you ask the seller to put it as a gift). The 380 is a new one and so far I am leaning towards that one.

The police can seize video tapes/equipment. I have been pulled over and had a tape seized and charged with 'Motor racing on the public highway' (look it up, it's not a nice charge). The tape was used against me as evidence.

Quite. It amazes me people are in such a rush to record everything they do on the road.

From the POV of the police, what you were doing probably did look a bit suss, though. Plus the cameras and memory cards are removable. I'm not going to be getting into any drag races on my way to work. I do encounter my fair share of morons, though.

So people who cause crashes want to quickly hide the "evidence".... Man up admit it, I have been through enough **** from drivers who have caused crashes then pretend like it wasn't there fault.

If I ever cause a crash, I will be the first person to put my hands up.

I have a big setup in the van, 1080p, 5 cameras, all 4 sides outside and an inside fish eye, gps, Gforce, audio and car data logging, 2TB storage, 3G and a wifi connection. Think thats everything, its great watching the accelerometers to see how hard your braking and taking corners.

Wow that sounds like quite some kit. Any chance of a run down on what youve got and how well it works.

In my car I have an cheap eBay job ,it does 640*480 and loops on to a 8gb card for £40 all in I think it works well enough. It turns its self on at unlocking the car and a three min timer after locking.

Bullit

What do you expect these forward facing cameras to show, surely if they do allow you to identify a car you crash into it will be in front of you and likely your fault? Do you really get caught up in enough non fault crashes for this to be worthwhile?
