"Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him," Sir Alex Ferguson told MUTV.

"We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There's no point talking about something that might not happen.

"There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment."

United, City and Juve are said to be happy to pay somewhere in the region of £15 million but Arsenal are thought to be demanding in excess of £20m for their star player.

Age and being prone to injury really knocks a few bucks off your price. Imagine how much he would cost if he was in his current form and 22 years old?

If he was 22 his value would be massively increased because that would mean he'd be under 24 when his contract expires, so Arsenal would get a compensation fee rather than him being able to leave on a Bosman next summer. In that situation Arsenal would want something in excess of £30m because even if his contract ran out they'd still get some cash.

The reason clubs aren't prepared to stump up the £20m+ wanted by Arsenal is mostly because, for the time being at least, they are trying to wait Arsenal out to get them to lower their demands, knowing that his contract is running down. The one thing Arsenal can hope for is that some sort of bidding war starts up, if it was just one team interested they would have us over a barrel, but if you have e.g. moneybags clubs like MC interested then it prevents e.g. Juventus stealing him with a cheeky £10m bid.

The one slight wildcard is the player, if RvP has his heart set on a move to club X then that may mean needing to accept a reduced fee as he could refuse to sign for the top bidding club.

He'd have the better chance of winning the CL at UTD. City still need a few more years in the CL IMO before they get used to it... and I don't see Juve winning it anytime soon.

and what footballer wouldn't want to be coached by SAF?

Was reading last night that City and utd both offered 12m and Juve 15m. I would say 15m is about right considering age and past injury record. Although he hasn't been injured in a while the risk is always there.

Whoever bids 20m will get him.

He'd be foolish to go to city. It would just create havoc in the dressing room. It would push Tevez and Mario down the pecking order and the last thing Mancini needs is another superstar ego to deal with. SAF has dealt with big ego's and does it well. Mancini just seems to crumble. He has dealt with Tevez and Mario horrible.

I think as it stands right now, UTD are in the driving seat to sign RVP. City don't need him, they're just getting greedy.

Although 12m is a lot of money, Arsenal would be better off keeping him for his last year. A good run in the CL is worth more than that to us. Plus qualifying for it next year.

Yeah, I can't imagine he will go for much less than £15 million for that reason.

I dont think Utd are in the driving seat when it comes to Arsenals point of view. Its bad enough we have added strength to a rival but to add strength to another rival is a little too much.

If he goes to City he will win things. If he goes to Utd he might win things. If he stays with us....well, lets not go there :D

If we were to sign him both Tevez and Dzeko would be sold so that's . Lol at Mancini not being able to deal with egos. He has dealt with players like Ibra and turned him into one of the best strikers in the world during his time at Inter.
What exactly did he do wrong with Balotelli?
The Tevez situation is arguable and I think personally he dealt with it correctly.

Why would you get rid of both Tevez and Dzeko? Maybe one but I wouldnt think both.

Well Tevez would go because Mancini I don't think he trusts him and the wages and fee from Tevez would cover RvP. Dzeko would go because I think despite the goals he still looks like he is struggling in our system. If we sold him as well as Tevez then Mancini would have that money for RvP and someone else.

Priority at the moment is to sell players however.

Are you saying in the 3-4 years he could spend at UTD that he won't win a single trophy?

He kept saying Tevez and Mario would never play for City again, he broke his word on that when he needed them. Thats just my view from outside looking in.

Lucas looks like a great prospect. Great feet and strong. Hope the rumours regarding a potential move to Manchester United are true.

They want too much for him... but at only 19 years of age and with that sort of talent and potential, he could be the next big thing in world football. Worth a gamble.

I'd rather see him at UTD than RVP.. but it looks like UTD are going after RVP now and not Lucas. :(

Where did I say he wouldn't win a single trophy in 3-4 years at Utd?

Talk about warping my sentence to make a point :p

I said he would win something with City, he has a CHANCE of winning something at Utd. But then again he also has a CHANCE of winning something at Arsenal.

In Answer to your question. Yes I think in four years he would win a trophy or two at Utd.

But his chances of winning a trophy are higher at City. If he wants to leave to win trophys then you would pick the place that is more likely to win.
