Tablets – Are they just a phase?

Of course they use predictions, they're businesses. But that's all it is, a prediction. They can predict it'll be the best thing ever, but when it launches it could flop entirely or just go through a phase of popularity like netbooks did. Happens quite often, I think you'll find.

You're simply jumping the gun a little, it's entirely possible that for whatever reason, these things aren't going to take-off the way you seem adamant they will.

I use the tablet all the time at home.
Kindle is a ebooker reader, no good for general media consumption.
When im reading thats all i want to do, i dont want to watch and film or listen to music.
Console is for playing games, again not for general media consumption.
Tablets play games
I don't want to be sat at a of to browse the web or general media consumption.
Dont understand the question.
So no, none of them are better than a tablet.
Yes they are when they come to doing what there meant for.
Even a laptop form factor means its not as good for sitting on the sofa or lying in bed browsing the web, looking at YouTube or whatever.
I agree with that.
I can then take it out and use it on a train, take it to a hotel and use it there. Take it on palnes. Take it to work (if you have a job with long periods you do nothing in) and so on. Their batteries last 10hours, they don't fold out like a laptop meaning you can use them any where, are lighter so can be held.
I agree with that aswell.

But from what you said just confirms what i said unless you commute to work on a train or bus, and even going on holiday thats all its really aimed at.

Jumping the gun? No I'm making a prediction. Some off which is backed up by existing stats. Other is based on what people do and how win8 and accolade those needs.

So no I'm not jumping the gun at all.

Despite using it for 90+% at home.

Greta you only want to read, what's that change? You can't turn the ereader into a browsing the net device.

Im not sure why and when people use tablets for. Im not being dumb or anything, to tell the truth i know very little about tablets. I would never use one at home, as ive got a tv/console/pc/kindle that can do better than any tablet could ever. So then its obvisouly for use when your out, but heres my problem with it. When do you use it when going out?
Personally for me theres no point in my routine where i could use it. I ride a motorbike to whether i go, so i cant use it then. Then im either at work (guess i could use it at break but then i play pool or chat with my mates) or down the gym.
So its either for students or adults who do a lot of commuting on the train/bus etc.
My post probably is dumb, please tell me why and when you guys use one.
I did checkout the new google tablet and it does look good but why would i want one?

Well I woke up early this morning around six and thought sod it, Saturday, I'm having a lie-in!

So grabbed my trusty Nexus 7 and proceeded to browse the web, caught up with Traffic Cops on iPlayer, watched the remainder of Transformers DSOTM, read a couple of Marvel comics, read a couple of chapters of Game of Thrones, played a couple of games, and sent a couple of emails!

All without any arm strain at all. Try doing all of that in bed with your tv/console/pc/kindle! :p:D

You do, i dont and im sure lots of other people dont and do:p (that sentence pretty much makes sense to me.

Like i said earlier i havent followed tablets at all, ive literally come onto this sub forum today and seen like 3-4 different tablets names. All i knew existed was the ipad, so my opinions are gonna be from my point of view.

Glaucus you seem pretty clued up about them so maybe you could recommend one. Which one would you recommed that could do a better job than my kindle for reading books and also better watching movies than my flatscreen 3DTV 46" tv with surround sound and blueray.

non can do better than kindle for reading books. As that's e-ink screen.
Non can do better than watching it on your tv. Despite having a tablet, I'm still wanting an ereader.

However if you're sat infornt of tv, what do you use to browse the web? Don't want to switch the program/film off what do you currently do if you want to check something out? Be it YouTube, news clip or anything else?

Want to browse in bed? Which of your current devices can you use for that?

Sure you can, just not a very good one. In much the same way as there are certain things that tablets aren't so great at. Like typing this bloody post.

Tablets are fine for typing these sort of length posts. Much rather type where I am than go sit on my desktop and type it. You can tell desktop typing, still plenty of mistakes just in a different way. Doesn't help my tablet is broke ATM, making typing particular hard sometimes as it randomly press delete key. Then as its lost a letter or two auto corrects. It also likes phantom space presses.

Why would i want to to browse when im watching tv/film, if it aint good i wouldnt be watching it.

Well then a tablet isnt for you.
But one person does not destroy a trend. As I've said not everyone will switch and people will switch at different times. But the trend is pretty clear and that can be backed up by existing trends and reports from companies like AMD and Intel, who expect declining sales in their desktop CPU series and increase in their mobile CPU ranges.

Im not sure what that means, do you work for an tablet company:p
Thanks for taking the time for posting, you are right it doesnt seem right for me. They do look quite smart though, just wish i had a job that needs a train ride.

.

I'm nothing to do with computer industry :p

What I mean is because tablets don't suit everyone. Doesn't mean that you represent the majority,
As I just said in the other thread, I've never said everyone will switch. But let's come back in 4 years and have a look at the sales charts and the market share charts. That will show declining sales in desktops and laptops and increasing sales in tablets and phones.

I know im not the majority, and im not suprised there that there doing very well. And im sure in 4 years its only gonna get better for the tablet companies.
If i was to say hey Glaucus which tablet would you pick for me to convice that tablets are fun and useful what one would you pick.
To help you out i would:
read books/comics/magazines
watch tv series/films (i would want them to be updated regulary)
play games that are made for tablets (dont care what you say fps will never be touch screen friendly)

I don't have to wait 4 years. The trend is now.

ATM iPad wins by a country mile. But I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a tablet ATM as they are last gen and about to be spanked, hopfully iOS/android will release massive updates to their Os but I can't see it in the near future, maybe middle to end of 2013.

So unless you absolutely need one or got money to burn I wouldn't buy a tablet at this point in time, or buy something dirt cheap like the nexus 7.
