Olympic Spectators Banned For Wearing the Wrong Brand of Clothes

Pepsi were going to pay people to wear the T-shirts so all they are doing is protecting the sponsors, and rightly so.

Coca Cola would still be sponsoring the event and be advertised much more than Pepsi, bearing in mind that only a minority of the spectators will wear these Pepsi t-shirts.

If spectators 'might' be banned from wearing Nike shoes what are the athletes who are sponsored by Nike going to do? Run bare foot?

The Olympics should be about individuals and teams not ******* sponsors and money

Why is it rightly so? How far into the pockets of big corporations are this countrys justice. I get the need to protect patents, but allowing the stifling of competition?

Who owns the copyright on the Olympic rings?

Thinks about it. Its a case of "The golden rule. Who has the gold makes the rule"

Coe being showed up for what he is, an ignorant corporate paid muppet, ive always suspected he preferred the coke :D

Olympics will be disaster after disaster

Imagine the anger if you get turned away from the 100m final after paying £4000 for a ticket for wearing a pair of Nike trainers

Paddy power and the like will be all over this trying to sneek in adverts, The beagle and sausage thing is just an embarrassment for the whole event. I mean c'mon an Olympic endorsed sausage....

Think its going a bit too far, even shops are being told they cannot display products that look like the Olympic rings.

...ridiculous

I want to take crates of Pepsi now and give them out for free :D

The event is so retarded anyway, let people wear what they want and tell the brodcasters not to televise people wearing branded clothing. simples, doesn't take a genius to figure it out. The more I hear and read about the Olym***** the more I despise it when I read stuff like this.

I doubt we will be allowed to host another. In fact, I hope we don't. This is meant to be for the people, but all I can see is that its a corporate orgy paid in part by the public. How does the Olympics benefit the people? You have ZIL lanes choking an already struggling road system, a predicted 500 million pound shortfall which the taxpayer will pay for with increased council tax, there will be an increase in off plan property buying, along with the fraud that can go with it, overhyping of prices on everything, from tea to tower blocks. Huge traffic jams, the brits are experts at that, crime will increase due to the pure number of people of course, but the victims will most likely be the tourists. business will suffer, because no-one will be able to get to work due to the traffic jams and so on. Been a long time since the brits had any success at much on a large scale, lets face it, they are responsible for inventing cricket, football, rugby, tennis, and are **** at all of them!
The Spanish olympics in Barcelona went ok, was there when it happened, luckily they had a road infrastructure capable of handling it at the time, if you have tried driving around london in the past 10 years, you will understand the problems they face.

A cafe manager in London who displayed five bagels in the style of the Olympic rings was ordered to take them down. A butcher in Weymouth, Dorset, also had to take down five rings made from sausages.

And police have been told to put sandwiches, crisps and chocolate in clear plastic bags to avoid breaking rules on advertising.

This has to be a joke right. RIGHT?!

How bloody ridiculous is that! Local business cannot use a representation of rings in the spirit of the event and you have to decant your food into plastic bags......

Olympics sponsor Visa has been accused of exploiting spectators by effectively banning the use of rival cards at Games venues.
It is ordering the closure of all cashpoints which accept Mastercard or American Express.
Non-Visa customers will not even be able to use their cards to pay for goods at checkouts.
The card giant will disable 27 LINK machines inside venues and replace them with just eight Visa-only cashpoints.

The O2 Arena, one of London's most successful and iconic venues, is to be rebranded for the London 2012 Olympics because of a sponsorship conflict of interest.

The former Millennium Dome, which was rebranded the O2 Arena as part of a huge naming rights deal in 2007, is currently using the name NGA1 (North Greenwich Arena 1) as a working title in all Olympics documentation.

The rebranding will occur to avoid a conflict of interest with ‘domestic tier one' London 2012 sponsor BT - a rival of mobile phone giant O2.

A stadium hosting Olympic events has said it faces a "mammoth task" covering up all trace of its sponsors name before the games begin.

The Ricoh Arena in Coventry is hosting Olympic football games and can only display the official Olympic sponsors.

Even road signs using the stadium's name will have to be covered up.

Anthony Mundy, the facilities manager, said: "Every sign that you see in the stadium will be covered up - it's a mammoth task."

Everything from the main stadium sign down to logos on the hand dryers will have to be hidden, he said.

But its not about money !

Read a article yesterday which suggests that visa might actually end up with bad publicity over this as people realise they cant pay for anything if they don't have cash at venues

Sorry, what?! You think this wasn't exactly the same in Greece and China?!

There is nothing different happening in the UK unfortunately, it's what the modern Olympics seems to be about. :(

I guess in part due to the fact it has become so big and needs so much security and organisation it would just be too expensive if sponsors weren't involved.

What's shocking?
You do know this is normal at the olympics. Hopfully they won't be so heavy handed as the Chinese, that even looked at foot ware.

This, this and this.

Ridiculous in my opinion, they even went as far as to create another act in 2006 to further protect the logo and other accessories. Surely promotion of the Olympics in this form should be encouraged, after all, it's a show of enthusiasm by those who use the Olympic rings as a logo. But nope... not in this country.

I think the problem here though is when people goto places like the O2 and other converted venues they will be caught out. There is absolutely no need to prevent cash machines from using any card, people could be without cash to eat or travel

Also lets say someone picks up £500 of merchandise and goes to the checkout, surely they would rather sell the goods than have to turn people away. VISA must be paying a fortune for this are are only looking petty in return

Oh don't get me wrong, I think it's retarded. When in Vancouver 2010 I was tempted to troll them with the most expensive thing and paying by Amex :p.

My point was just that it's wrong to blame London 2012 or the UK Government, it's the Olympics itself at fault.
