AMD better value on a Budget?

I just tried to include the ones with HDMI port... but if we include the DVI to HDMI adapter...

Then yes, the Intel does come out cheaper.

I would still go Llano, at the least the iGPU on the A4 can handle gaming a lot better.

Edit: Without native HDMI, you would need to faff about with the sound output, so I think vadar is right with the first option for a media setup.

Agreed, but it doesn't sound like it's for gaming, we're also operating under the assumption OP isn't using a cheap dedicated card, although I can't see the need.

EDIT :Is OP even going to be using HDMI, or will he be using dedicated speakers and a speakerless monitor :p?

sorry folks, should have been clearer.

This will not be for gaming. I have a

MSI GeForce GT 210 1GB Graphics Card
and a
Videomate ComPro S800F Digital Analogue HDTV DVB TV Tuner Card
going in, so HDMI on motherboard isn't a concern. Its just going to be for recording TV, playback of media (inc Full HD) and ripping DVDs etc.

I'm just wondering on a budget which would be better for this, AMD or Intel. I have no idea With regards AMD as I haven't had an AMD system in about 6/7 years. I don't know what socket we're on or anything! lol

I know the cheaper celeron Sandys are fairly capable, and the flexibility of an 1155 board is tempting, but would I be better going AMD for the above application?

Ripping DVDs with a Celery?? Are you encoding the DVDs to another format?? The G530 is a fine budget CPU especially for a budget gaming rig,but I really would look at the deals on the AMD A6 CPUs ATM if you are doing any video encoding.

Would the GT210 be much of an improvement over the HD2000 though?? The Llano IGP in the A6 is better than the HD6450 AFAIK. The G530 would probably be fine for playing back DVDs and the such though(even older IGPs were fine AFAIK).

sorry, I meant burning! lol.

Im not sure about the graphics card, picked it up for £20 brand new (originally by mistake lol) and though It might give a bit more flexibility on motherboard, eg dont need a HDMI out on the board

If he's got a card that can handle playback, there's no reason to get the A4 over the Celeron then.

Although, for video encoding, I agree with cat, Intel don't have a place at the moment with cheap quads.

At 8 quid cheaper, and 35% more CPU grunt, I fail to see the negatives with the GT210.
Though the Llano's GPU would be better.

Will be using HDMI, through to His flatscreen TV

Through the card, means you can get the cheaper board without HDMI.

Does that mean the 24p bug does not exist with a dedicated gfx card? I've just switched to Intel myself, so I'm curious...
