*** The official Sony Xperia S thread ***

Updated using that sony update manager thing. Worked perfectly.

Weirdly enough, my GF's phone doesn't even flash up with the update notification when she plugs it in.

Had my Xperia S for around a week now.

Comming from a HTC sensation that i had for 2 months before i dropped in the canal... and beforethat a iphone 3 I was actually disapointed initally.

Why?

I dont know it just felt weird, the phone is quite big and it felt slow .anyway i took it home that night and pluged it in, and boom update not sure to what but i let it do its thing and I can tell you a week in I just love it.

it feels and looks very superior to any HTC i have seen, the more i look at it I realise it is a very pretty phone, the screen is just fantastic, everything feels fast and on my htc sensation I would need to charge the battery by 3pm, this Sony lasts through the day with 40% left...

not really a big app and widget man, I was disapointed to see sky Go is not available yet for this but I just teethered it to my ipad to watch when out and about.

Great phone and for the £299 I paid Im chuffed

Yes, Sky are totally Apple-Centric, their Android support is laughable. I may vote with my feet and go back to Virgin and Tivo when my contract is up, and tell them why. If they care.

Glad you are enjoying your phone. It is a superb phone.

Couple of times the last few days I have had no data connection when trying to access the internet or google play.
That has been at home so wifi was also available.

Can't figure out what the problem is as the wifi symbol was present on the display?

No idea (people on O2 forums don't seem to know other than it's soon) but if your comfortable with it you can either flash the phone to a generic firmware, manually update to ICS or root the phone to get ride of all the bloatware.

Must admit - rooting has made my XS even better! I have removed some of the junk apps and there are probably a few more I could get rid of. The phone now flies through parts it previously struggled with at times e.g. some times the home screen would have to redraw when unlocking - doesn't happen at all now.

This is taking the mick! still no ice cream sandwich update (Voda) though the fone is unlocked?

I've got a few scratches on my screen, I could live with some but one or two distort the colours (can't explain).

Can you easily replace the cover on the screen, as I assume that is what the scratch is through? I had some screen protectors I tried to apply but failed as I didn't realise it already had one on it.

However the one on it seems thicker and different to the ones you buy, so if I just replaced it with a bought one would it provide the same protection?

I'm worried to remove the protector to see if the scratches are only on the protector as I assume it will be more at threat of scratching if I do?

Cheers

I have a rather annoying problem with my XS. It randomly lowers the volume to 0 as if someone was holding it down. Assume it's a hardware issue? There appears to be no damage to the volume rocker.

That could be an issue with the radio and RF shielding when connected to certain network bands, the Galaxy Nexus had that when it came out and they fixed it pretty quickly with a firmware update.

Looks like my Xperia S is dead, no longer switches on all I get is a red light when I charge it which vanishes after about 5 mins. Tried all the Power + volume up to restart nothing :(

I bought this from Amazon germany, will Sony UK still repair for me?

Thanks for the advice chaps.

I have to say I'm not seeing these low prices anywhere tbh.

Are mobile phone seller competitors?

Very tempted by the htc one S now as well.

it was a competitor to here so not sure if i can mention them :)

Had my Xperia S for a while now and its faultless, no lock ups, screen is great.

Battery consumption comming from the HTC is out of this world, i abuse it most of the day and come home with 50% at least.

Had some nice comments about it's looks also, suprised its not very popular to be honest

Battery life on my Xperia S is now appalling - it went from 100% overnight down to 46% now. Been doing that the last 2 or 3 days. The battery is exhausted in 24 hrs doing nothing at all. If this continues, does the warranty cover the battery ? The battery has suddenly deteriorated, it never used to be this bad.
