Hi,

I have recently upgraded from a XFX Radeon HD 6870 to KFA 2 GTX 670. The old card had a 6+6 pin connector. The new card requires a 6+8 pin connector. As of now I am powering the card by using the molex connectors that came with the card. Is there a way that I can power the card using a connector directly from the PSU (Ezcool Infinity 80+) ? The PSU has a 8 pin slot for using a connector, can I get a connector (8 pin) which will go straight to the graphics card. Also as per the KFA2 manual, even the 6 pin connector that goes into the 670 has only 5 pins (the top middle pin is not there) as opposed to the 6 pin that i was using for 6870. So i am not sure if I can use the 6 pin connector that i was using for the 6870.

Thanks for any help.

If the 8 pin on the PSU were at least 3 x 12v and 4 or 5 x Ground then you could put together a cable to run from there I suppose. I doubt if you could ever buy something off the shelf that'll just work.

If I were wanting to do this I might look at buying a few 8 pin to 8 pin extensions and swap terminals as required to make it work from the voltages coming out of the PSU, assuming of course that it is just 12v and grounds coming out of that 8 way. Not a job for the faint hearted and perhaps a bit of a waste for an Ezcool PSU.

Thanks for the reply. If i were to buy a new PSU, do they come with the 8 pin connector to just plug and power the graphics card ?
And how much watt PSU wud be required ?

Not this one as it only has a single PCI express connector so you'd still need to use a Molex.

Most decent OEM/Manufactruer wattage power supplies will come with multiple PCI express connectors.

My old 600W OCZ came with a 6+2 pin and a 6 pin.

My existing FSP 700W has 2x 6+2 pin.

An older FSP PSU I had came with four PCI express connectors, 2x 6 pin and 2 x 6+2.

So it cleary varies between different brands and models.

It comes with 2 pci express connectors, both 6+2, the ocuk description is wrong.

Edit:

By all means spend more on something like the xfx 650w etc

650w max is all you really need as it can handle 670 SLI. I just figured since you said you were "saving" for one that I would reccomend a lower priced option.

Personally If money wasn't an issue I would get the corsair ax650
