Hi,

I can run my MSI 7850 TFIV at 1200/1350, 1.25V, and it passes all benches I throw at it no problem (Heaven on loop, 3dmark11, etc). But it sometimes crashes (about 30% of the time) when first loading a game, I think at the point when it switches from 2D to 3D mode. It freezes up with the 'display driver stopped responding' message, when I ctrl-alt-del out.

The odd thing is that if I get past the first few seconds in 3D mode, I can then game for hours and it never crashes! It also sometimes crashes at idle, running aero effects, at higher clock frequencies. The only way I can get it totally stable in both 3D and 2D is to have it at around 1125/1350 or lower.

Does anyone have any idea why it might be stable when it gets going, but not on the transition from 2D to 3D, and is there anything I can do about it? I've tried lowering memory clock, different drivers (12.3, 12.4, 12.6) but it's the same.

Thanks!

You need to bump up the 2D clocks using Afterburner or GPU Tweak incase you haven't already. Solved the problem for me.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have 2D and 3D clocks set the same? And did you used to get crashes like me, when first loading games and going from
2D to 3D?

I used to have crashes when starting games, and I don't have 2D and 3D the same, but I increased the voltage to 950mv and the clock to 400Mhz/4000Mhz

Right, thanks. I'm trying the 'force constant voltage' option at the moment so that it underclocks at idle but doesn't undervolt. No crashes do far.
