Hey,

So I am looking at places to go on Honeymoon this coming December and Jamaica fits the bill for flight times, dates, price and temperature....all set to book when i did the usual and read reviews about the hotel and Jamaica itself...

People talking about very high crime rates have put me off considerably. Im not looking to go outside of the resort, surely its not that bad ?

Anyone been who can comment on this ?

Cape Verde is another option but isnt as warm :(

I went there for one day from a Cruise ship (on my honeymoon) worst stop of the honeymoon. We got off the ship into a secure cordoned area ushered into a secure minibus for each of the locations we were seeing. We were driven around the rural areas and people would stop and stare as we went past. In a couple of places guys would try to force their hands through fence bars or open window to sell us drugs... lovely.

IMO - Avoid.

I would however recommend a cruise as a honeymoon, they are epic - you are waited on hand and food all food is part of the package (not drinks) and if you tell them it is your honeymoon with wedding cert as proof you normally get a free cabin upgrade and some freebees.

Same really, I've been there 6 times now.

Such an amazing country with loads to see and do, amazing culture and history too. The people are also incredibly friendly as clichéd as it seems.

Crime does tend to be a bit of a problem but the hotels only warn about going out at night etc.

Not once have I felt uneasy being out in the daytime

St Lucia also really nice.
Sandals resorts are great, although avoid the smaller ones imo they do not have the choice of the bigger ones.

I got stranded in St Lucia a couple of years back when the snow hit Gatwick at that time of year. Was terrible being stranded in an all inclusive luxury resort and not being able to come home on time ;)

After doing a lot of the globe I recommend Caribbean to most. IMO its got the best balance of people, service, scenery etc. Plenty of places will beat the carrib on one or more but yet to find somewhere else that matches the overall package.

Why bother even thinking of going so far then?

You may as well go to Blackpool and sit in a tanning booth.

If you are not planning of moving out of a resort, you may as well go much closer to home.

his choice at the end of the day.

A curveball idea..........Cuba. Went this summer, and it was awesome.

Stayed in Negril for two weeks in 1997. Not sure what the crime rate is like but I think as long as you're sensible and don't stray too far from the "path" you'll be fine. Lovely beaches/water and people. Food was great. Music - well, lots of Bob Marley and Reggae. Great place :)
