Samsung S27A750D & S27A950D - What's happening with these monitors?

Both of these monitors I would like to buy but have been held off due to there being DP issues on the S27A750D and price hike on the S27A950D. When you go on the Samsung website neither of these monitors are listed and most places have limited/zero stock on the monitors.

Anyone know what's going on and when I could pickup either the S27A950D at a decent price or the S27A750D without any DP issues?

Unfortunately there are no monitors out there quite like these being ultra thin look as great as they do 1080P and 120Hz.

I have one and have had dp issues but what I heard they wont fix this one it will be a new model/revision.:(

I was in the same boat as you, searching for a decent 120hz monitor at a reasonable price! In the end I risked buying a B-Grade 950D from OCUK (was £350). I don't regret it, though it has one "faulty" pixel (I say faulty, because it's not stuck or dead... just seems to change colour depending on what's on screen...and if the screen is one colour it always takes that colour, so it's barely noticeable).

It seems that before the price hike and lack of stock it was 500ish, so I think I got a good deal and dodged the displayport issues.

In all honesty though, my second option was the Benq 24" one... none of the other 27" ones seemed to tickle my fancy. The only other one I'd have considered was the Asus, but it was too expensive for what it is (£500 for one that's arguably not to the same standard of a 950D). The iiyama is the same price as the 750D was, but again no where near as nice aesthetically (and hardly any reviews whatsoever). Perhaps now is just a bad time to buy a 120hz monitor :(

To be honest, I took a big risk there... I wouldn't really recommend going B-grade for a monitor, especially an expensive one. I guess you can always return it if there's a problem, but you'd be out of pocket on the return postage under DSR (unless the problem is bad enough for it to be returned under warranty).

Mine still appears to have the original Samsung warranty (which lasts two years from original purchase I think), so I was lucky in that respect. I think it was just a straight DSR return, had original packaging + all accessories etc.

I see the S27A950D on the Samsung website...http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/monitor/led-monitor/LS27A950DS/XS

I haven't used anything but the DVI connection on mine, but I will have to use the DP connection soon (I have a Catleap on the way and my graphics card only has 1 dual-link DVI output). If the DP does not work as it should I will RMA the monitor and insist that Samsung provide me with one that works as it should. If I'm reaally lucky, they might even replace it with a newer model. If not, I'm stuffed.

Ah, right you are. So does anyone know what the 'new model' will be?

Unfortunately issues on this are sketchy and I can't really get anything particularly useful out of Samsung. At the risk of posting misinformation on this I will just keep quiet. ;)

They don't have anything I know of that would replace these monitors - the monitors this year all start 'SB' but they already have an S27B750 (for example) which is completely unrelated to the S27A750. They might just up production again if they can sort some of the issues out, maybe releasing a new revision or suchlike.

There is no newer model, so you're stuffed. However, you could be lucky and not really have many issues with the DP... fingers crossed! :P

This is what I'm hoping for. Most reports of DP woes are for the 750D...but that's perhaps to be expected given that that monitor has no DVI port. We shall see...I REALLY don't want to have to get a DP-to-dual-link-DVI adapter for the Catleap as that would need to be one of the monumentally expensive 'active' adapters that require USB power. Never seen one for under 100 bucks, and even then I'm not sure how they would affect input lag and/or overclockability of the Catleap. Sigh...

And yet some people find the 950D design hideous...so much so that they don't want it as a replacement for their 750D when they encounter DP issues...odd (I think they look great)

Are there any alternatives to these monitors? I've got the money waiting dieing to buy one but I refuse to pay a extra £100 and £200 on either when they were a lot cheaper only a month ago.

They are the only glossy 120Hz 3D monitors out there at the moment. They launched at ~£500 (S27A750D) and ~£600 (S27A950D) so don't beat yourself up over the current prices. ;) I am not sure exactly what Samsung are doing with stock in the UK at the moment, or US for that matter.

The only alternative 120hz monitors readily available at the moment are:

Iiyama ProLite G2773HS (27")

Benq XL2420T (24")

Benq XL2410T (24", wouldn't recommend it...has issues resolved in the newer version above)

Asus VG278H (27")

and finally, overclocking a Korean import... I've not looked into this much. They're higher resolution, and certain early Catleaps can be overclocked with some success allegedly.

I would buy any in a heartbeat - if they were ultra thin like the Samsungs.

The Asus look's great for technology but I couldn't live with such a ugly monitor.

I've seen similar Asus panels here at work. They don't look that bad (just not as nice as the Samsungs), but the 120hz one is also very expensive (more expensive than the Samsung at the moment)...so in that respect I don't think it's worth it!

The Iiyama one looks cheap and horrible in my opinion (the bezel/stand).

The Benq I've not seen in the flesh, but it doesn't look like anything special either.

It seems there isn't a whole lot of aesthetically pleasing 120hz monitors around right now :(
