Hey, Im off to Thailand on the 28th. My Flight is at 10am and I was thinking of setting off from Nottingham at 4:30am. Using google maps its says the journey is 2:45hrs using the M1 and M25 do you think that will be ok? As i was wondering if the Olympics will have any effect on these roads? Also will Gatwick outbounds be effected by all the people coming in for the Olympics, should I get there before the usual 2 hours before?

Thanks.

5 and a half hours (3.5 assuming you need to be there 2 hours in advance), for a journey that should take 2 and a half max.

Leaving at 4:30am should be PLENTY of time. Too much if anything.

Given that you are using the M1 and the M25 and aren't going into London you should probably be alright.

The only issue is that the 28th is the Men's Cycling Road Race which sees some of the biggest road closures of the entire Olympics, it goes past the M25 right into the South. However, its a weekend and again, I wouldn't have thought this should cause too much of a problem on the M25.

It's pretty painless to take the train. There's a direct service from St Pancras to Gatwick airport.

Train is a daft suggestion. He'd have to leave Nottingham at 11.10 at night and wait at Leicester for around 5 hours.

Drive it, plenty of time.

Or he could leave Nottingham at about 6pmish, check into his hotel, chill, get a good nights sleep and wonder down to the airport in plenty of time.

Definitely the most sensible suggestion. Would have been useful to sort out a few weeks ago to get a better set of prices but there is nothing worse than being up at 4am for a flight, followed by a long drive to the flight, followed by an airport.

Book a train for the afternoon before, book into a cheap hotel near by and travel in comfort.
