GTX580 to GTX670 - is it worth it?

I play at 2560x1440.
Would I notice big difference swapping my GTX580 to GTX670?
I know there were threads like this before, but most of them were talking about 1080p gaming.
How does it look at higher res?
Anyone made this jump?

1440 on a 580 looks the same as 1440 on a 670.

The difference would be in the amount of frames you can render per second while while then produce smoother gameplay.

The difference isn't that large between a 580 and a 670 though. If you can get a decent price for your 580 then it could be worth it due to a better GPU and more VRAM on the 670.

I know, it's all about the frame rate:)

I guess nowadays I won't get £200 for it, but if I could sell it for that and get some lightly used GTX670 for £250 - would it be worth adding £50-60?

I was thinking reference card, EVGA, maybe Palit.
Then OC them as much as possible..

I think its a kind of like buying a Skoda .

Palit are fine but they have this air of cheap tack.

For £309 a 1ghz GTX670 looks good. Difference is for £339 you get the EVGA 1ghz but with 3 year warranty.

Yep!

I've had a couple of Gainward cards and they've been fine, Palit being the same company, you should be fine.

Hi Rossi. yeah Palit is a parent company of Gainward, right? I had many Gainwards in the past and they were always fine.

Cool then.

I've had a couple of gainward and pallit cards and none of the 3 of them overclocked like at all... which on a pallit 560ti you might not mind much but on a phantom 580 is really annoying

I personally would steer clear of pallit/gainward for this reason in the future

EVGA "reference" 670 actually has a bigger heatsink and quieter fan than the other reference cards and mine easily OC's to 1200+ (1280 if you are willing to put it on maximum fan but that is a bit noisy and the wife complains)

Right, but I think Gabe OCed Palit reference too and the beginning just before release and it went up pretty good too. Maybe it depends on each card then.

Does anyone who moved from GTX580 to 670 and plays at 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 can confirm is there a significant difference in frame rates?

I've seen 3 people who bought palit jetstreams all come back with pretty poor OC's off the back of 1 good review...

a 670 is a goodly amount faster than a 580, but you will still need 2 of them for maximum settings in quite a few titles at 1440p (which is what I run)
I wasn't 100% happy with a single 670 at 1440 so got a 2nd

I tried 580 SLI previously and found VRAM to be limiting and suffering from dips and stutters which I don't get with 670 SLI

Stick your 580 on MM if you go with a 670, I'm after one.

OT, I'd have a 670 if I could stump up 300 notes.:( decent jump over a 580 especially if you clock it, the 2GB of ram does not hurt either.

I would, but don't have access to it yet:(

That is what I thought too, getting a second GTX580, but at the end of the day, it's always better to have newer technology and 670 takes a lot less power.
Thanks for letting me know about SLI results.
