Hello all, this is the latest revision of my build.

Primarily a gamer, I have an increasing interest in video editing/picture-edit/CAD. I watch/listen to all media through my PC.

My budget is £1500 and I don't wish to stretch further currently UNLESS it includes a soundcard and speakers.

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £96.98
1 x GeIL Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £33.59

Case is personal preference so I won't go there. Cheaper RAM, yes it's CAS11 but that's not going to make much odds at all in the realworld. I take it the blue RAM is to match the colour on the mobo, you wont see much of it at all under that heatsink ;)

This PSU is very good, modular and would have enough juice to SLI the 670 (as you have a SLI mobo this kinda makes sense). The DVD drive i spec'd I also own. You can flash it's firmware to make it a 524 and unlock the extra features for free.

Case is selected because it doesn't look like it will offend my eyes in 3 weeks - also I read a few reviews.
If you have suggestions or points I'm willing to listen.

The ram was selected as it wasn't chirpy cheap cheap or OTT - nothing to do with the colour or I would have swapped the heatsink - really why that colour of plastic fan?!?! lol

I have been aiming for a build to come in at £1500 top-end, for my needs and desires, I've been relegated to a laptop for 2 years and it's just not for me when at home. Having said that I'm noob to PC building - I just feel the time is right to get what I want/need, not what the shop has built to sell.

All advice etc you can offer I'm happy to listen, thanks for taking the time to offer your tuppence worth! Appreciated.

Looks good. I'm not sure how good IPS monitors are for gaming though.

I see a lot of people saying get a Dell XXXXXXXXXXX monitor but as far as I can see the one I have chosen is better for gaming on top of my other interests.

I have been worried though that I just don't know enough though - I accept someone out there knows this stuff like the back of their hand and they can correct me - hence i'm here.

Thanks for your thoughts mate!

Sorry you miss understood me bud. I wasn't suggesting you picked a bad case, just that it's very much a personal preference. If you have read reviews and watched videos about the case......thats good, it will help you as a new builder to get familiar with the layout of the case :)

The Geil RAM isn't cheap cheap (like the budgie) nasty RAM, just that it's on offer at a good price. It actually overclocks quite well too not that it makes much odds doing so on this socket. The prices fluctuate and can be deceiving. I've seen that Corsair Blue RAM go for £50 or over here, it was priced higher than the black edition that's for sure at the time....currently they are priced the same.

I suggested you spend a lil more on the PSU to cover SLI but it averaged out when I saved a few quid on the RAM. You didn't mention anything about the PSU or Optical drive come to think of it.....any thoughts?

We are always happy to help and offer our opinions. If you need assistance with the build you know where we are :D

colour matched to blue
changed the mobo from the ud3h to d3h, still sli capable: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/comparison/list.aspx?ck=2&pids=4153,4144
monitor: http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monitor/iiyama-prolite-e2473hds-p10816/test.html
hx 750 instead of 650, enough juice if you will sli. if you never intend to sli, a 500w psu will be fine and can drop the board to a non-x d3h
changed case to give you another option ;p
heatsink colourmatched to blue, and its also better than the d14
ram colourmatched to blue
changed to bluray player
changed keyboard mouse to sidewinder x4+g500, best entry level gaming combo imo
added a set of speakers from the cost savings made elsewhere ;p

Thanks for the thoughts but keep them comming!

I'm unsure about quite a few parts because frankly opinion differs - I've been recommended monitors with 18ms over 2ms monitors, as a gamer that puzzles me.

I currently have an IPS monitor selected but IPS with great reviews of quality, bang for buck etc etc at £200 and 6ms seems to me to be a no-brainer unless I'm better off with my original 2ms monitor selection.

Justification on issues is really what I need at this point while I negociate with the shop.

Specs will differ fella. I waffled on about the Geil RAM before, see how it's now £40 instead of £33. £7 sounds like nothing but that can end up paying for say a slightly better GPU lets say, which has a longer warranty and clocked faster.

You said you weren't concerned about the look of the parts but when you have a large window on the case you spec, it appears to us that you do want to "show off" what's inside.

There are daily offers to consider but the weekly offers change on a wednesday. Gives you plenty of time to mull over your options. If the offers don't help much wait till next week and try your luck then.

Taking your time and planning out exactly what you want and asking questions makes lots of sense. I hope we help more than we hinder lol

micro ATX, 3770k, H80 (thick rad) after market 670 and a 120hz screen with a very good mouse and sound card plus sdd and 1tb hard drive??
