Pulled a SATA port off my motherboard

Now the computer wont turn on, does this mean the motherboard is dead? It's an Asus M4A88T-M

Was in a rush to take one of the hard drives, pulled on the SATA cable not knowing it was one of those that has a release clip

Check to see if there any pins sticking out, and if so seperate them.

Are AM3 processors compatible with AM3+ motherboards?

I beleive they are, but double check the CPU support list for the motherboard your looking at.

I must admit I have almost pulled the cable and forgot about the clip.

Could the rest of my hardware be damaged because of this? I don't want to buy another mobo only to find some of my bits have become faulty

Even if other bits are faulty you'd still have to replace the mobo.

If you buy online you're covered by the distance selling act for a few days, just make sure you unpackage it VERY carefully so when you package it back up it's like new.

Took the board out and this is what the SATA looks like:

The underneath looks the same as the other SATA's so nothings damages there. I don't understand why it wont power on??

Have you tried resetting the settings via the contact points on the board?

It works! Took the board out again and had a look around, I cut up strips of wiring sleeves and slotted them over each pin to ensure it doesn't short. Plugged all the cables back in and it boots as per normal

I tried putting the cap on it's just too fiddly for me, this was the next best thing

Who said you wanted that sata port anyway!

Managed to snap the holdering guide thingy on my second pci-e slot, and the other day managed to snap the clip holding gpu 1 in place!

Annoying more than anything
