What adaptor to go from macbook retina to dual link dvi?

I bought a hdmi to dvi convertor for my macbook so i could use it with my 27" hazro but unfortunately it wont fit thanks to there not being enough room for an hdmi cable and the adaptor.

Im thinking I need to utilize my existing dual link dvi cable and connect it to thunderport/displayport, has anyone done this and what would I need to make it work?

You'll need to get a mini displayport to dual-link dvi adapter but be warned there are lots of reports of flaky connections with the official Apple branded one. My miniDP to DVI is made by Startech and it worked fine with my U2311H.

Just buy an HDMI to DVI-D cable, no seperate convertors. I just bought one for around £3.

DP to DVI-D you'd need an active convertor for around £70

Great, Ive done that, hdmi to dual link DVI, I really wanted a thunderbolt style option so that everything was on that side of the laptop, thats the only downside really.

It does look neater, but you have to question if it's worth buying an active convertor for it. I deliberately chose screens that had displayport inputs - both screen connnections, USB and power are all on the one side.

Its just what I have at the moment unfortunately, Ill probably end up buying a 27" mac display when I move house and will have a permanent spot for the laptop while Im at home, I bought the cable, a usb3.0 hub, apple keyboard and a stand yesterday so I will need to make that look as tidy as possible, I hate wires!

Could ditch the Hazro and look at the DGM monitor (LG IPS panel, the same as the Thundebolt display) that OcUK are selling has display port input - although there's doubt over if it actually works to spec, people have reported issues.

Im not gonna be moving till Sept/October time so ill see how I get on with the hazro till then, I think Id want to be snobby anyway and get an apple display so everything matches
