What are the key benefits? From what I can see even the £100 boards seem pretty capable, and very much "on par" with my current 990FX.

Ok - thanks for the info.
I "upgraded" from Phenom II X6 1090T to Core i7 870 and was really unsure if that was sane since it would be going from 6 cores to 4 cores. However the Core i7 870 was much quicker in every game in 1920x1200 (AA off not to let the GFX's be a limiting factor when testing). It would only be in some of my videorendering programs the X6 pulled ahead with less rendering seconds, but generally the Ci7 870 was much faster.
Upgrading from core i7 870 to yet another 4 core cpu intel core i7 3820 the Phenom II X6 1090T is blown off the stage and left in the dust... even in my videoredering programs the 4 core cpu outmatch the 6 core cpu.
However I still have the Phenom II X6 1090T working in my other system which my girlfriend is using.
Upgrading from core i7 870 to yet another 4 core cpu intel core i7 3820 the Phenom II X6 1090T is blown off the stage and left in the dust... even in my videoredering programs the 4 core cpu outmatch the 6 core cpu.
However I still have the Phenom II X6 1090T working in my other system which my girlfriend is using.
