I currently have a GTX670, but am lead to believe that the ATI cards are better for multi-monitor gaming?

My issue (if it is an issue) - is I have a Bitfenix prodigy case, so can only have one card.

Is a 7970 for example powerfull enough to run 1080p eyefinity by itself? Is the 670 decent enough for eyefinity (or whatever Nvidias version is called)

Thinking of getting an extra 2 monitors.

The 670 will handle 3 monitors pretty well on its own, although you may find you'll want to add another one for some games

Ah, in that case, have you considered a 690?

The 670 and 7970 are pretty equal, the 7970 isn't worth the upgrade, but neither will max out every game with 3 monitors. That being said, you will most likely find both to be fine if you're willing to play on med/high

What games do you play?

I'm running 3 x 1080p screens off a single 7970 (at 1150/1500 at the moment) and it copes very, very well. You have to sacrifice AA in most games (2x rather than 8x) but most still allow you run the settings at Highest. As Cleeecooo said, the move from 670 to 7970 won't be a huge step so it might be worth trying multi-screen on the 670 and, if needed, saving up for the next generation cards to roll around.

Yip - ££££ !!! for the 690.

May try on the 670 first and see how it gets on. Watercooling 1st though!

Can't see any realistic reason why you wouldn't manage it with a 670.

I'm managing 3x 1440p monitors on a 6950 at the moment and it's not doing too bad.

I have been using eyefinity for a while now and a 7970 would actually max a lot of the games out there since its mostly console ports. Games like the Modern Warfare,Dirt 2-3,Grid, Dues Ex, Assassins Creed all run great as PC gaming is so far ahead right now. Just don't expect to run Crysis and BF3 on 3 monitors on highest settings. It does add immersion to the game, the bezels don't really bother me. Got my 42" 3D tv above them. Like a command centre! :D

I'm using 3 x 1080p screens from one 670, been playing dayz at 5760 x1080, you usually have to lower the settings a bit though, I ran crysis 2 maxed just to try and it was ok, i'd probably have lowered the detail a little to get it as smooth as possible, but the little i tried wasnt bad. Metro 2033 wasnt bad either cant remember if i needed to drop the detail much for it or not. I've been gaming on one screen mostly as ive been playing in 3d, but happy to test something if it helps.

The games it struggles on are Max Payne 3, GTAIV and sometimes BF3

How are you finding it? Is it any better for spotting people?

I hope it copes well. I got 3 1080p screens setup at home last night with a 7970 on my work desk now. Hurry up 5pm!

I want DayZ with 3 screens!

yeah its nice, i'm not sure how much it helps, although you do get a bit of free zoom towards the edges of the screen which is handy :D you'll need to tweek some files to get the display settings right arma 2 wont do eyefinity straight out of the box but its well documented on the internet just an ini file needs tweaked. heres some screen shots, i lowered the detail quite a bit more than i needed to ensure best performance at all times.
