I know a lot of you have this router so hoping someone can help.

Spent most of this evening trying to get this up and running with my Virgin media superhub with no luck. Hub is running in modem mode, I can link wirelessly and via Ethernet cable to the Asus but I cant get the two to talk together. The auto set up fails every time, have power cycled both numerous times, reset them and upgraded the firmware on the router but nothing.

I'm suspecting a dead wan port on the asus as no lights on the wan socket at either the modem end or router when connected and no wan led light on the front.

Before I send it back is there anything else Im overlooking or should try?

Many thanks for any help..

Pete.

bad cable,reboot the superhub
mine connected first time after a reboot ,do not know if you need to or not ?,its some thing you had to do with the old modems on virgin

You have the network cable plugged in to the correct port on the superhub? (the one closest to the cable socket)

Otherwise it sounds like it is kaput.

Have rebooted the superhub many times, tried 2 different cables one of which I know is good, am using the prt nearest the cable too,

Thanks though chaps

Here's a thought, I notice I can set the Asus up as an AP. I can't find any instructions on this though.

Sorry I dont know much about this so I take the superhub out of modem mode and connect one of the lan ports on the asus via Ethernet to the superhubs LAN? Does it matter which LAN port I use on the superhub?

If it is just a dead wan port would this be a reasonable workaround?

Cheers

Digress, keep trying on the N56, I've got the same setup and it is so worth using the N56 as "the" router rather than an AP.
When the hub is in modem mode, can you plug directly into the modem and get internet?

I can't offer much help as mine failed first time and then worked, I left everything connected and powercycled the lot.

There is an option when you go into asus settings, on network diagram if you click the router it hops into the internet setup. I got it to re-try and it came up.

Helpfully 2 days later virgin changed my WAN IP and I had to reboot as the ASUS though it had the old one.

I had a bit of trouble. Set the WAN on the N56U to DHCP/auto and turn off both devices. Turn on the superhub, wait for it to connect and the light goes purple (to signify it's in modem mode) and then turn on the N56U.

If that doesn't work try to reconnect from the N56U web interface.

Thanks for all the info guys, have tried as suggested but no joy, the fact that there is no activity light at all on the Asus wan port or the hub modem port when connected makes me feel it is dead sadly.

I have managed to get it working fine as an AP though, hub not in modem mode, LAN port to LAN port but as you say not ideal.

Was an eBay purchase so will send it back for refund..

Thanks for the help..

Yup, the final piece of the puzzle there.
ebay sale of high value electronics = either broken, stolen or the seller doesn't have one in the first place.

Buy it from a proper retailer. :)

Saying all that I had nothing but problems getting my N56-U setup. In fact first day I tried I gave up two hours later and left it all with the Home Hub 3 - I'd had that little success.

It wasn't until I went back to it a week later I finally got it working - and even then everything had to be connected in "just the right order". Not as simple to get working as some would have you believe :)

I've bought loads from there and never had an issue. Your statement is a little 'blanket'. Loads of reputable retailers operate on it.

Yes but given the choice I'd pay a few quid and buy from a reputable online company (ocuk for example) rather than Barry Big Business in his bedroom drop shipping.

**I'd also pay a little more and physically pick the thing up from a shop (shame ocuk isn't nationwide)

You have definitely made sure you were plugged into the correct port when it's in modem mode? Only one of the ports on the back of the Superhub will work when in modem mode.

This does sound like PEBCAK to me.

Definitely in the right port on the superhub, can connect my laptop to it in modem mode via ethernet on that port and it works fine,

Milano, care to explain that comment?

If nothing else surely I'd expect the activity light on the asus wan port to flash when plugged into the superhub?

Indeed, there should be a connectivity light on both the router and superhub.

Make sure there's nothing disabling the port in the web GUI.

Looks DOA though if you're sure the cable is fine. :(.

Returned it for a full refund and got a new Cisco e3000 on clearance from a high street multiple, set up and running in 10 minutes and all great.

Thanks for the help chaps...
